{"id":201188,"date":"2025-10-09T22:22:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-09T22:22:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/201188\/"},"modified":"2025-10-09T22:22:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-09T22:22:08","slug":"man-found-dead-in-etobicoke-was-victim-of-homicide-toronto-police-say-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/201188\/","title":{"rendered":"Man found dead in Etobicoke was victim of homicide, Toronto police say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"b-date-custom__date-item\">Updated:\u00a0October 09, 2025 at 5:06PM EDT<\/p>\n<p class=\"b-date-custom__date-item\">Published:\u00a0October 09, 2025 at 4:33PM EDT<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A man who was found dead in an Etobicoke business earlier this week was a victim of a homicide, Toronto police say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Officers went to the business located in the <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/jMYHetqNt3aCDMkc9\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/jMYHetqNt3aCDMkc9\">Vulcan and Iron streets<\/a> area, west of Martin Grove Road, on Monday night and found a person deceased.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said an autopsy was conducted and, on Wednesday, the victim\u2019s death was deemed a homicide. The cause of death has not been revealed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/64237\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.tps.ca\/media-centre\/news-releases\/64237\/\">identified as 35-year-old Derrick Cheung of Brampton<\/a>. He is the city\u2019s 33rd homicide victim of the year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Police said 36-year-old Lennard Emptage from Georgetown was initially arrested on Tuesday and charged with indecent interference with a dead body.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Wednesday, police laid an additional charge of second-degree murder against Emptage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Const.
