\tSARANAC LAKE \u2014 Brisa Brunette connected on the game-winning goal in the second sudden-death overtime on Wednesday to give the Saranac Lake girls soccer team a 2-1 home victory over the Moriah Vikings. <\/p>\n
\tBrunette scored after getting a foot on the ball in front of the net, following a pass from teammate Ashlyn Tomaszewski, who beat out her defender and put the ball on goal, less than four minutes into overtime.<\/p>\n
\tWith the win, the Red Storm snapped a seven-game winless streak, while improving to 3-6-2 overall. Saranac Lake\u2019s head coach, Jason Wamsganz, said it was a great team win. <\/p>\n
\t\u201cI was pleased with every phase of the game,\u201d he said. \u201cWe moved the ball well and moved off the ball well; it opened players up and we played very unselfishly. We really need to capitalize on chances; we had a lot of great opportunities and didn\u2019t finish the way that we needed to. They\u2019ll work at it and we\u2019ll do better.\u201d<\/p>\n
\tBrunette also scored the first goal of the game after taking a cross pass from Layne Locke less than eight minutes into the game. But after holding the Vikings scoreless through most of the contest, Moriah\u2019s top goal scorer, Alexis Mascarenas, broke through after carrying the ball across the 18 and shooting. <\/p>\n

\tSaranac Lake\u2019s Kelsi Burth had defended Alexis Mascarenas all evening, and Wamsganz was proud of how Burth guarded her.<\/p>\n
\t\u201cShe\u2019s a good player, and Kelsi really limited her chances,\u201d he said. \u201cOur defense played well in support.\u201d<\/p>\n
\tThe Red Storm finished with a 13-11 advantage in shots. Saranac Lake\u2019s goalie Emma Akey recorded 10 saves en route to the win, while the Vikings\u2019 Sophia Taylor had 11.<\/p>\n
\tUp next, the Red Storm will host the Boquet Valley Griffins at 4:30 p.m. today.<\/p>\n
\t\u201cThey are a good team and Claire Reynolds is a really talented player,\u201d Wamsganz said. \u201cWe\u2019ll have to limit her chances and ability to set up a play for her teammates. It will definitely be a challenge for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\tThe Lake Placid girls soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to eight games on Wednesday, after defeating the Ticonderoga Sentinels 3-1 on the road.<\/p>\n
\tElla Moodey scored twice for the Blue Bombers, while Kendra Levitt added a goal and an assist in the win. Lake Placid is now 8-4-1 overall. During the unbeaten streak, the team has scored 17 times and conceded just five goals along the way. The lone non-victory was a 1-1 tie with Moriah.<\/p>\n
\tBelle Burroughs scored the Sentinels\u2019 lone goal on Wednesday, while Addie Munson chipped in with the assist. <\/p>\n
\tLake Placid\u2019s goalie, Emma Clark, and Ticonderoga\u2019s MJ Drinkwine each had six saves.<\/p>\n
\tThe Blue Bombers will travel north to take on the Northern Adirondack Bobcats at 4 p.m. on Friday. The team will wrap up the regular season next week with a home contest against Indian Lake\/Long Lake at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, before taking on Saranac Lake on the road at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.<\/p>\n
