<\/p>\nA new billboard in Pasadena, Calif. is calling on pop star Chappell Roan to follow through on her viral lyric \u2014 \u201cI\u2019m movin\u2019 to Saskatchewan.\u201d<\/p>\n
Travel company Skyscanner launched a billboard campaign ahead of Roan\u2019s two sold-out shows in the city, on Friday and Saturday, asking the pop star to perform in the Prairie province.<\/p>\n
The billboard reads, \u201cIf you\u2019re serious, Chappell \u2014 flights to Saskatchewan are $189 on Skyscanner.\u201d Mobile trucks will also circle concert venues, part of what the company calls its \u201cSaskatchewan DeTour.\u201d<\/p>\n
The campaign adds another chapter to Saskatchewan\u2019s unexpected pop-culture moment sparked by Roan\u2019s single The Subway.<\/p>\n
Roan\u2019s reference to Saskatchewan set off a wave of excitement.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt definitely left me speechless and so excited,\u201d Toronto-based writer Abby Zinman told CBC\u2019s This is Saskatchewan podcast. \u201cIt just doesn\u2019t happen that often, especially in mainstream American music \u2013 we don\u2019t get a lot of shout outs like this.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Saskatchewan\u2019s 2SLGBTQ+ community, the song\u2019s mention struck an even deeper chord.<\/p>\n
Creator Kris Bynes, known online as Little Twink on the Prairies, said Roan\u2019s lyrics felt like a love letter to queer fans on the Prairies.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody thinks of Sask. as some place that\u2019s just for yee-haw country boys,\u201d Bynes said. \u201cBut baby, we exist here and we\u2019re valid here and I want to wake that up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chappell Roan is giving Saskatchewan some love in her new single, The Subway. The breakup song released Thursday night talks about escaping it all and moving to the Canadian Prairie province. In the leadup to the song’s release, Saskatchewan’s own Captive Media was hired by Universal Music Canada to film a special teaser video right here at home. Even politicians got in on the excitement. <\/p>\n
Saskatoon MLA Nathaniel Teed wrote to Roan\u2019s management team, saying the song \u201csparked unexpected joy and a real sense of connection,\u201d and invited her to perform in the province.<\/p>\n
While Roan has said she \u201cowes it\u201d to fans to play a show in the province she sings about, her Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things tour does not include a stop in Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n
