Boxing Promoter Hints at Entering MMA to Challenge Dana White<\/p>\n
It has been years since Dana White<\/a>\u2018s UFC faced a true competitor in the MMA industry. However, boxing promoter Eddie Hearn<\/a> might be interested in changing that. Recently, he teased entering the sport to challenge White\u2019s UFC directly.<\/p>\n White made headlines by questioned boxing promoters\u2019 vision ahead of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford<\/a> event on Netflix<\/a>. He promoted that event and then vowed to take over boxing with his new Zuffa Boxing promotion.<\/p>\n Hearn, an established boxing promoter with Matchroom Boxing, didn\u2019t take kindly to White\u2019s bold claim and responded.<\/p>\n Hearn revealed that he has had discussions with Turki Alalshikh<\/a> about entering MMA. Alalshikh has a strong track record of booking highly anticipated boxing fights. That said, Hearn would also has the funding available to compete with White should he and Alalshikh team up.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve been talking to Turki about MMA. He loves the [expletive],\u201d Hearn said during an appearance on\u00a0The Ariel Helwani Show<\/a>. \u201cIf I\u2019m in the MMA business right now, it\u2019s a hell of a story. I feel like I could have a huge influence and a huge presence in MMA with the way that I promote.\u201d<\/p>\n He added:<\/p>\n \u201cI, too, love the [expletive]. And, that announcement would be fun, wouldn\u2019t it? But listen, anything could happen.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Eddie Hearn Says Dana White\u2019s UFC Fighters Are Unaware of Potential Revenue<\/p>\n Hear also claimed that UFC<\/a> fighters, especially headliners, are unaware of the revenue they could be earning. He believes the roster leave substantial earnings on the table due to the lack of transparency from White.<\/p>\n On The Ariel Helwani Show, Hearn argued that fighters should the event revenue and how it is distributed. He suggested a revised pay structure to show fighters much more fighters could earn.<\/p>\n \u201cCan you imaging you said to a star in the UFC, \u2018It\u2019s your show and we\u2019re gonna have open-book, and you\u2019re going to take 80 percent of the profit of the show and we take 20 percent,’\u201d Hearn said. \u201cThe UFC guys are fighting without any understanding of how much revenue is in the pot.\u201d<\/p>\n Hearn highlighted the UFC\u2019s media rights deal<\/a> with Paramount<\/a> as evidence of the revenue fighters might be missing.<\/p>\n \u201cIn that model where it\u2019s a league or it\u2019s a\u00a0Contender Series, and the guys are getting 50 [thousand] if you win this fight, 100 [thousand], and then 200 [thousand], it\u2019s peanuts,\u201d he said. \u201cHow much are [the UFC] getting from Paramount? If it\u2019s multi-million dollars per show [for the] rights fee, which it will be, profit is unbelievable.\u201d<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Eddie Hearn Reveals How He Would Notify White of His MMA Entry<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Hearn also shared how he would notify announce his entry into MMA<\/a>. He hinted that he would use a similar tactic to White\u2019s approach when he entered boxing.<\/p>\n When White announced his boxing plans, he said he would take over the sport. During his appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, Hearn explained that he would turn the tables on the UFC CEO.<\/p>\n Hearn said he envisions telling White his plans publicly and believes it could be positive for the sport.<\/p>\n \u201cCan you imagine the press conference? I would tell Dana and say, \u2018You\u2019re gonna take over boxing? You\u2019re coming for me and boxing?
