<\/p>\n CALGARY \u2013 Sofia DiGiacomo’s<\/a> goal in the 54th minute gave the University of Calgary Dinos a 1-0 win over Mount Royal Friday night on a memorial ‘Seniors’ Night’ from McMahon Stadium.<\/p>\n With the win, the Dinos\u00a0incredible season continues as they not only remain undefeated and improve to 11-0-2 on the year, but they claim the Canada West Prairie Division title for the second consecutive season, ensuring a home Canada West quarterfinal contest on Friday, Oct. 24.<\/p>\n MRU – which entered the day as the only team still capible of catching the Dinos in the race for the division title – falls to 9-3-1 on the year.<\/p>\n “We talked pre-season about making this (McMahon Stadium) a fortress, it’s our new home,” Calgary head coach Diogo Raposo<\/a> said. “Obviously, the opportunity to host at home and to have great feelings here in the first round of the playoffs is important.”<\/p>\n The two city rivals – which ironically hadn’t played each other in a league game since 2021 despite the two campuses being separated by a mere eight kilometres – battled to a scoreless first half. The Dinos held the majority of possession and out-shot the Cougars 9-1 in the opening frame.<\/p>\n But the difference maker\u00a0wouldn’t come until the second half. Kaleigh Major’s<\/a> corner kick eventually found the head of Brooke Batty<\/a>, who sent the ball across the face of goal to a wide-open DiGiacomo and the senior made no mistake for her third goal of the year.<\/p>\n “It was a relief, honestly,” said DiGiacomo about how she felt after scoring the goal. “We still had 30 minutes left to go, but I think it was a game where we were dominant. We were in their zone kind of a lot of the game. Their goalie made some crazy saves, so it was just a bit of relief and kind of a weight off the shoulders now that we’re in a good spot and we just have to finish the game.”<\/p>\n The Dinos continued to apply pressure but the game would finish with just the one goal, thanks in large part to a strong performance in net from Mount Royal’s Ella Filek, who was credited with six saves in this one.<\/p>\n
