\u201cBy virtue of being a woman, if that\u2019s coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it,\u201d Deepika said. \u201cBut it is no secret that a lot of male superstars in the Indian film industry have been working for eight hours for years, and it\u2019s never made headlines.\u201d<\/p>\n
She further pointed out that many male actors work only Monday to Friday and rarely on weekends\u2014yet those choices are normalised.<\/p>\n
Calling out the systemic disorganisation in Bollywood, Deepika emphasised the need for a more structured approach. \u201cWhile the Indian film industry is called an \u2018industry\u2019, we\u2019ve never really functioned like one. It\u2019s extremely disorganised, and it\u2019s about time we brought in proper systems and structure.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking to Brut India, she added, \u201cI don\u2019t think what I\u2019m asking for is ridiculously unfair. I think only someone who\u2019s worked in the system enough will understand the kind of conditions we work in.\u201d<\/p>\n
Deepika also clarified that she\u2019s not alone in this demand. \u201cI know many women\u2014especially new mothers\u2014who have started working 8-hour days. But that didn\u2019t make headlines either. So I don\u2019t quite understand the outrage.\u201d<\/p>\n
