MALIBU, Calif. \u2013 Pepperdine women’s soccer (8-4-1, 5-0 WCC) scored on a penalty kick in the first half, fending off Gonzaga (5-8, 3-2 WCC) for the seventh shutout victory of the season.

\n“I was really pleased with the way we managed the game today,” Head Coach Tim Ward<\/a> said. “I am really proud of our girls. I feel like we deserved it on the overall performance. Now, we need a few days to rest and recover.”
\n\u00a0
\nStarting out on the offensive third of the field, the Waves were looking for a goal early. After about half an hour of play, Julia Quinonez<\/a> was fouled in the box making a run to goal, triggering a penalty kick.
\n\u00a0
\nFor her first goal of the season, Ariana Salvador<\/a> buried it in the back of the net to give the Waves the lead going into halftime.
\n\u00a0
\nThe second half was as defensively taxing as the first. The Zags did not let up all 90 minutes of play, giving Jillian Medvecky<\/a> the opportunity to tally a career-high eight saves on the afternoon.
\n\u00a0
\nHolding onto the one-goal advantage, the Waves secured their second shutout of the week and seventh of the season. Starting conference play 5-0, Pepperdine has not done so since they went undefeated in the WCC eight years ago in 2017.

\nUp next, Pepperdine takes the week off before heading to San Diego for a Friday night game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. as the Waves look to improve their record under the lights to .500.
