BALTIMORE – The Dickinson women’s tennis team was back in action on Saturday competing as individuals at the first ever\u00a0Goucher College Invitational at the Evelyn Dyke Schroedl Tennis Center.<\/p>\n

\nThe pair of Chloe Heller<\/a> and Loretta Szych<\/a> knocked off Clayton and Stepleman\u00a0from Stevenson University by a score of 6-1. They were then tripped up by Gettysburg College duo\u00a0Mazzeo-Zheliaskova\u00a0in the semifinal 6-0. On the other side of the bracket Natasha Sharnoff<\/a> and Alisa Steele<\/a> bested the Goucher pair of Navarro and Siggen (6-1). The duo then fell to the same Gettysburg team in the final by a score of 6-3.<\/p>\n
\nAnabel Romero Gemmell<\/a>\u00a0and Merve Uyumazturk<\/a> opened up with a 6-2 win over Carrocio-Paullin from Gettysburg. Maddie Lindquist<\/a> and Avery Williamson<\/a> suffered a 6-3 setback to another Gettysburg unit of Dougherty-Lerkov. The Devil tandem of Romero Gemmell and Uymazturk would then take the title 6-0 against Dougherty and Lerkov.<\/p>\n

\nSteele began her bracket with an 8-2 defeat at the hands of Arina Zheliaskova. In the same draw Sharnoff defeated Stepleman\u00a0(8-0), but then tried her luck against Gettysburg’s Gabriella Mazzeo and suffered an 8-7 loss.<\/p>\n
\nHeller started out by downing Siggen 8-7 (7-2 tiebreak), which put her right in the final against her teammate Uyumazturk who bested Lerkov (8-3). With the two Devils in the final it would ultimately be Uyumazturk who needed a tiebreak to solve Heller 8-7 (7-1 tiebreak).<\/p>\n
\nSzych\u00a0opened up with an 8-4 triumph over Alexa Benedict from the host Goucher. In the same draw, Romero Gemmell\u00a0beat Anderson out of Penn State-Harrisburg (8-0), before knocking off Paullin from Gettysburg 8-2. That set up another matchup of Devils for the title of the bracket as Szych held off Romero Gemmell by a margin of 8-4.<\/p>\n
