{"id":207631,"date":"2025-10-12T14:08:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T14:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/207631\/"},"modified":"2025-10-12T14:08:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-12T14:08:09","slug":"alouettes-redblacks-renew-rivalry-on-westjet-thanksgiving-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/207631\/","title":{"rendered":"Alouettes, REDBLACKS renew rivalry on WestJet Thanksgiving Weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TORONTO \u2014 Rivalries are built on memory.<\/p>\n<p>Memories of previous battles that come down to the wire, of glories and disappointments, of two sides wanting to get the best of each other.<\/p>\n<p>The Ottawa REDBLACKS and Montreal Alouettes face off on Monday to cap off WestJet Thanksgiving Weekend looking to add to those memories.<\/p>\n<p>Receiver Tyson Philpot has been a part of those before, knowing that a game against his closest rivals, geographically speaking, will always be a tough one.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst off all, it\u2019s always a great matchup, playing Ottawa,\u201d said Philpot in a conversation with CFL.ca. \u201cNo better place to play them than on Thanksgiving. fans always show out for that game. We\u2019re super excited for that one. The veteran receiver is hoping that come Thanksgiving, he\u2019ll be thankful for finally scoring a victory against his former teammates and colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited, I love playing Montreal,\u201d said Lewis. \u201cThat\u2019s the first city that embraced me when I got to Canada. I\u2019m always appreciative of them. I\u2019ve always loved those people, love that fan base, but I have to get my first win against Montreal. That\u2019s one thing I haven\u2019t done yet, since I\u2019ve been playing them. I can\u2019t wait to go back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The REDBLACKS have been eliminated from playoff contention, but could still play a big role in the East Division race for first place with back-to-back games against Montreal. The Als meanwhile want to keep track with the Tiger-Cats, who lost their matchup against the Stampeders on Saturday and opened the door for Montreal to finish ahead.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the Als finishing first or second in the division over the last three seasons (while also winning the last two Thanksgiving battles against Ottawa), the East has been on alert to knock them down, says Philpot, who\u2019s determined to show Ottawa why his team has had so much success recently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re trying to match the Alouettes so it\u2019s time to show them what we\u2019re about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All that is left is the matter of naming this rivalry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBattle of the canal or something like that?\u201d said Philpot.<\/p>\n<p>While the name is a work in progress, the rivalry gets renewed when the REDBLACKS and Alouettes face off on Thanksgiving Monday to prove \u2013 albeit temporarily \u2013 who rules the day between the two easternmost teams in the CFL.<\/p>\n<p>Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.
