If you can\u2019t find a nationally televised NBA game this season, you\u2019re not trying.<\/p>\n
By January, pick a night, any night \u2014 there will be national matchups every day of the week for the first time in league history via ESPN\/ABC, NBC or Amazon Prime Video. Some are over-the-air; every one of them will be streamed; and the NBA is going to find out, once and for all, if it\u2019s oversaturated the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cNow that it\u2019s this many games, I am wondering how the fans are going to react,\u201d said Craig Sloan, CEO of Playfly Sports. \u201cAre they going to just splinter so it\u2019s not actually growing audience? Or are we going to see an aggregation of more audience when we get to the end of the season? That\u2019s something that we\u2019re certainly, in my insights team, keeping an eye on.\u201d<\/p>\n
The schedule is simple, or difficult, depending if you plan to memorize it. If not, here\u2019s a cheat sheet:<\/p>\n
Mondays: Peacock (up to three exclusive games on Monday nights throughout the regular season). <\/p>\n
Tuesdays: NBC (two games \u2014 one separate East Coast prime-time game; one separate West Coast prime-time game; both streamed on Peacock).<\/p>\n
Wednesdays: ESPN\/ESPN app (doubleheader).<\/p>\n
Thursdays: Prime Video (Prime Video will stream Thursday night doubleheaders from January through April).<\/p>\n
Fridays: Prime Video (doubleheaders starting in October); ESPN\/ESPN app (select Friday night doubleheaders beginning in January).<\/p>\n
Saturdays: ABC\/ESPN app (Saturday prime-time games from January to March); ESPN\/ESPN app (select Saturday night games starting in January); Prime Video (select Saturday afternoon games from January to March).<\/p>\n
Sundays: ABC\/ESPN app (Sunday afternoon games in February and March); ESPN\/ESPN app (select Sunday afternoon games); NBC\/Peacock (\u201cSunday Night Basketball\u201d in prime time from February to April).<\/p>\n
If you\u2019re still at a loss, the league\u2019s broadcast partners say they will do their best to cross-promote games on each other\u2019s outlets, which is a far cry from the NBA\u2019s early days.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen it was first brought up [in the old days], people shrugged their shoulders,\u201d said Ed Desser, the league\u2019s former president of NBA television and new media ventures.<\/p>\n
But, at the board of governors meetings this past September, all the new broadcast entities were unified on promoting everyone\u2019s games regardless of the network, never more crucial than this coming season.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all compete on rights, but at the end of the day, our job is to make the NBA the most successful it can be,\u201d said Jay Marine, Amazon vice president and global head of sports. \u201cAnd if we do that, everybody wins.
