\n\tIn a recent interview with Decider<\/a>, Keira Knightley<\/a> said that prior to joining the voice cast of Audible\u2019s \u201cHarry Potter<\/a>: The Full Cast Audio Editions\u201d as Professor Umbridge, she was \u201cnot aware\u201d of the fan boycott of all things \u201cHarry Potter\u201d over J.K. Rowling<\/a>\u2018s statements about the transgender community.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cYou know, I think we\u2019re all living in a period of time right now where we\u2019re all going to have to figure out how to live together, aren\u2019t we?\u201d Knightley said. \u201cAnd we\u2019ve all got very different opinions. I hope that we can all find respect.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBacklash toward Rowling started in 2020 after the author posted several tweets and a 3,600-word essay that many interpreted as transphobic. In the weeks following, \u201cHarry Potter\u201d stars Emma Watson, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint all posted statements<\/a> on social media in defense of the trans community.<\/p>\n

\n\tWatson further elaborated<\/a> on her relationship with Rowling during a recent episode of \u201cOn Purpose With Jay Shetty.\u201d The host asked Watson for her thoughts on Rowling\u2019s comments that she would \u201cnever forgive\u201d Watson for her views and that the \u201cHarry Potter\u201d movies are now ruined because of Watson and her co-stars.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI really don\u2019t believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have, mean that I can\u2019t and don\u2019t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with,\u201d Watson said. \u201cI will never believe that one negates the other and that my experience of that person, I don\u2019t get to keep and cherish. To come back to our earlier thing \u2014 I just don\u2019t think these things are either or. I think it\u2019s my deepest wish that I hope people who don\u2019t agree with my opinion will love me, and I hope I can keep loving people who I don\u2019t necessarily share the same opinion with.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tShortly after, Rowling took to X to slam Watson as \u201cignorant\u201d<\/a> and having \u201clittle experience of real life.\u201d She wrote, \u201cI\u2019m not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created. The idea is as ludicrous as me checking with the boss I had when I was 21 for what opinions I should hold these days. Emma Watson and her co-stars have every right to embrace gender identity ideology.
