J.J Spaun was one of the highlights for team USA at the Ryder Cup, with the rookie picking up two points for his country at Bethpage Black.<\/p>\n

The 2025 U.S. Open champion played just three times at the 2025 Ryder Cup, a decision that frustrated many, with Spaun left out of the foursomes sessions entirely.<\/p>\n

Colt Knost has now revealed that Spaun knew his fate a week before the event, and that his ommission from alternate shot was down to him being the only player gaming a Srixon ball.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the podcast\u00a0Straight Facts Homie,<\/a> Knost said:<\/p>\n

\u201cI play golf with J.J. a lot here at home in Scottsdale. We were playing together Thursday before he left and he shot 60 on me, by the way. So he looked in pretty good form.<\/p>\n

I said, \u2018any idea, off the record, who you going to go with?\u2019 He\u2019s like, \u2018I know I\u2019m not playing alternate shot\u2019. I said, \u2018what?\u2019 And he said, \u2018yeah, part of it, I\u2019m the only one who plays a Srixon golf ball\u2019. <\/p>\n

I looked at him like, you\u2019re, in my opinion, a top three ball striker on that team, and alternate shot\u2019s all about giving yourself chances for birdie. He\u2019s a great driver of the ball, he\u2019s a great iron player. He\u2019s also a great putter as we\u2019ve seen. He\u2019s really good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Knost added that he was stunned that Bradley still decided to keep him benched on Saturday in the format after things had gone so poorly for the U.S. on the opening day, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI get it, he\u2019s a rookie, so sit him out on Friday morning. But when the deficit happened, and him and Scottie played pretty good Friday afternoon, they just got beat, they were nine under, the other team was 11 under, I couldn\u2019t believe that he wasn\u2019t thrown out there Saturday morning. <\/p>\n

We saw Cam Young, that wasn\u2019t in the plan. But they moved him up there with Bryson.\u201d<\/p>\n
