LARCHWOOD, Iowa — The Minnesota State men’s golf team wrapped up round one of the USF Invitational in sixth place Monday.<\/p>\n
The two-round USF Invitational is being held at the par-72 Grand Falls Golf Course. As a team, MSU shot a 293 (+5) in round one to finish the day in a tie with Concordia-St. Paul in sixth place. Winona State leads the team standings with a 282 (-6). Bemidji State’s Logan Schoeppe, CSP’s Trey Timm and Sioux Falls’ Charlie Hanson lead the individual standings at 68 (-4).<\/p>\n
“The guys grinded today,” head coach Alex Schmitz<\/a> said. “Unfortunately that fourth score just needs to be tougher. We will grind tomorrow in the weather and try to work our way up the leaderboard.”<\/p>\n Senior Hogan Ordal<\/a> led the Mavericks on day one as he finished ninth with a 71 (-1). Ordal notched five birdies and was -1 on the front nine. Junior Karson Patten<\/a> finished one stroke behind Ordal at 72 (E), while recording five birdies as well. Senior Ryan Darling<\/a> notched a 73 (+1) also, while posting four birdies.<\/p>\n Freshman Sam Swavely<\/a> shot a 77 (+5), with sophomore Michael Johnson<\/a> following one stroke back with a 78 (+6). Freshman Waii Chiditawn Wangrungwichaisri competed independently and finished round one with an 83 (+11).<\/p>\n Minnesota State wraps up the USF Invitational on Tuesday.
