It was inaugurated on 28 September 2025 in Guizhou province, spanning a deep gorge over the Beipan River. Perpendicular from its deck to the riverbed, the bridge’s height is 625 meters (about 2,051 feet), surpassing the previous record held by the Duge Bridge.

Sky-High Café & Tourism Highlights at the World’s Tallest Bridge

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge sets structural records and also introduces a glass-walled café perched at an extraordinary height as a key tourist attraction. The ride reportedly reaches the top in under one minute. Within, the café spans two stories, and its walls are made of glass, offering unobstructed 360° panoramic views across the canyon and surrounding peaks.

Below the road deck, the bridge features a glass walkway that enables visitors to look straight down into the canyon, approximately 580 meters beneath their feet. This skywalk portion reinforces the bridge’s dual role as both infrastructure and immersive scenic experience.

Architectural Design and Structural Engineering of the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge

The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge stands as a remarkable feat of modern civil engineering and architectural innovation in southwest China’s Guizhou province. Stretching a total length of 2,890 meters, the bridge ranks among the longest and most technically advanced suspension bridges in the world.

© The US Sun

The main suspended span is 1,420 meters, supported by two monumental towers that rise 262 meters and 205 meters, respectively, on either side of the canyon. The bridge’s truss frame alone weighs nearly 22,000 metric tons, roughly equivalent to three Eiffel Towers, according to reports from Highest Bridges. This steel framework supports the traffic deck and enhances resistance against strong crosswinds that sweep through the canyon.

The bridge features embedded fiber-optic sensors integrated throughout the main cables. These sensors continuously track stress levels, temperature changes, and structural vibrations, ensuring real-time monitoring and early detection of potential issues.

© Li Yunfeng/Getty Images

Construction of this record-breaking bridge commenced on 18 January 2022, and after three years of precision engineering, the main structure was completed in early 2025.
