Despite all the success, working towards an industry with equal opportunities doesn\u2019t come without roadblocks. The death of George Floyd and the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 became a catalyst for increased diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives across companies in the US and globally. However, recent years have seen growing criticism, reaching a peak earlier this year when Donald Trump signed a slew of executive orders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/feb\/14\/diversity-equity-inclusion-dei-us-trump-google-amazon-walmart\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">rolling back DEI initiatives<\/a>. \u201cWhen hostility toward DEI grew louder, we didn\u2019t retreat,\u201d says Ricardo. \u201cThis year, we made a conscious decision to treat that backlash as fuel. Instead of softening our position, we doubled down, because the industry needs inclusivity now more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-block-key=\"a6d47\">Looking forward, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thisisbien.com\/?utm_source=itsnicethat&amp;utm_medium=cta_banner&amp;utm_campaign=intro_article_launch\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">BIEN<\/a> wants to continue to create opportunities and educate audiences through workshops and scholarships. And in the long term? \u201cWe want to see new design trends, fresh creative output, business results for our clients, while simultaneously creating social change. There\u2019s no room for thinking that the creative and advertising industries are shallow and don\u2019t contribute to the greater good,\u201d says Ricardo. \u201cWe\u2019re working towards a future that normalises diversity.
