{"id":211946,"date":"2025-10-14T08:59:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T08:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/211946\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T08:59:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T08:59:14","slug":"alberta-students-keeping-busy-hope-for-end-to-teachers-strike-as-talks-to-resume-tuesday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/211946\/","title":{"rendered":"Alberta students keeping busy, hope for end to teachers strike as talks to resume Tuesday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many Alberta students are sleeping in these days, struggling with the feeling they should be doing something else instead.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1760146148_446_70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>A provincewide teachers strike, about to enter its second week, has meant some 740,000 children haven\u2019t had to set their morning alarms, catch buses or pack lunches.<\/p>\n<p>Declan Reid, 15, has been taking it day by day, seeing friends and attending an impromptu football camp organized by local coaches not affiliated with his Edmonton high school.<\/p>\n<p>The freshman linebacker said having his team\u2019s games put on hold because of the strike isn\u2019t ideal, but he feels more sorry for older players who are over halfway through their final season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese last few weeks could be really beneficial to them,\u201d he said. \u201cGetting their tape out for colleges to look at, seeing if they get looked at.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-blockquote__content l-article__blockquoteContent\">\u201cFor me, I just always wanted to play football. But Grade 5 has actually been fun to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\tMore on Canada<br \/>\n\t\t\tMore videos\n\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Red Deer student Lillie Fulton, 13, admitted she isn\u2019t the biggest fan of school and is enjoying the time off, but she doesn\u2019t want to be gone much longer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI kind of want to go back to school because it gets me up in the morning,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Her five-year-old sister, Vylett, just started kindergarten and is worried about her teacher.
