{"id":213038,"date":"2025-10-14T19:24:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-14T19:24:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/213038\/"},"modified":"2025-10-14T19:24:07","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T19:24:07","slug":"flyers-to-present-bernie-parent-goalie-mask-to-player-of-the-game","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/213038\/","title":{"rendered":"Flyers to present Bernie Parent goalie mask to player of the game"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">A legend is being honored by his former team by using a familiar piece of equipment to highlight today\u2019s stars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">Following the team\u2019s 5-2 win over the <a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" hreflang=\"en\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyfaceoff.com\/teams\/florida-panthers\/line-combinations\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florida Panthers<\/a> on Monday night, the <a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" hreflang=\"en\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyfaceoff.com\/teams\/philadelphia-flyers\/line-combinations\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia Flyers<\/a> introduced a new \u201ctrophy\u201d to be awarded to the player of the game. The memento is that of late Flyers legend and <a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/news\/flyers-to-honor-player-of-the-game-with-bernie-parent-mask\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" hreflang=\"en\">Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Bernie Parent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">The first winner of the new award was, of course, a netminder. After picking up his first victory with his new team, Dan Vladar was given the mask after stopping 26 of the 28 shots he faced against the defending Stanley Cup champions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">Vladar was handed the mask by Flyers captain Sean Couturier. <\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">\u201cI think it\u2019s just fair it goes to [Vladar],\u201d\u00a0Couturier explained to his teammates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">\u201cThat was really fun playing behind you guys. Let\u2019s keep this going,\u201d Vladar said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">Parent passed away last month <a class=\"text-secondary underline underline-offset-2\" hreflang=\"en\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyfaceoff.com\/news\/hockey-hall-of-famer-bernie-parent-passes-away-at-80-philadelphia-flyers\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">at the age of 80<\/a>, leaving behind a legacy that goes far beyond the Flyers organization. The team honored the man who backstopped the Flyers to Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975 (winning the Conn Smythe Trophy each time) prior to the team\u2019s home opener.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">Couturier exclaimed to the media the level of importance Parent had on the team and the City of Brotherly Love.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">\u201cBernie Parent did a lot for this organization, for this city, was involved off the ice as well, in the community,\u201d Couturier said. \u201cIt was a great effort in his honor. Definitely will be missed around here. We\u2019d always see him around at games. Always had that quality of lighting everyone up, putting a smile on everyone\u2019s face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg\">Monday\u2019s win also marked the first for new head coach Rick Tocchet.
