It\u2019s highly addictive and illegal in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/1760146149_837_national.jpg\" alt=\"For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet breaking National news<\/p>\n<p>For news impacting Canada and around the world, sign up for breaking news alerts delivered directly to you when they happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt contains opium alkaloids, including morphine and codeine, which can pose a risk for toxicity,\u201d Booker said. \u201cThere have been cases of overdose and death arising from consumption of poppy pod tea or poppy seed tea.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-blockquote__content l-article__blockquoteContent\">\u201cObviously, it\u2019s not as immediately toxic or acutely toxic as some of these synthetic opioids that we see, but it does still pose a risk to people who are using it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Staff Sgt. Marco Antonio with the EPS drugs and gang enforcement (EDGE) section said it\u2019s believed the powder was being sold on the illicit market.
