{"id":214641,"date":"2025-10-15T10:55:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T10:55:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/214641\/"},"modified":"2025-10-15T10:55:09","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T10:55:09","slug":"social-security-sending-payments-today-wednesday-oct-15-this-is-whos-getting-a-check","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/214641\/","title":{"rendered":"Social Security sending payments today, Wednesday, Oct. 15: this is who\u2019s getting a check"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"\">Millions of Social Security recipients are set to receive their monthly benefits today, as the Social Security Administration (SSA) pledges to carry on making payments as usual &#8211; despite the government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>Social Security payment dates won\u2019t change, SSA says<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In a statement on October 1, the SSA said the distribution of benefits \u201cwill continue with no change in payment dates\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The SSA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.ssa.gov\/what-the-federal-government-shutdown-means-to-you\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/blog.ssa.gov\/what-the-federal-government-shutdown-means-to-you\/\">communiqu\u00e9<\/a> came after Congress failed to pass a new funding bill to avert a federal shutdown before a deadline of midnight ET on the evening of September 30. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">In the 14 days since then, lawmakers in Washington, D.C. have remained unable to agree on a spending package, amid a divide between Republicans and Democrats on healthcare funding. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The shutdown is now entering its third week, with thousands of federal workers furloughed without pay until a deal can be reached. This includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/agency\/shutdown\/materials\/contingency-plan-09-24-25.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/agency\/shutdown\/materials\/contingency-plan-09-24-25.pdf\">around 6,000<\/a> SSA employees, per plans released by the agency.<\/p>\n<p>Who\u2019s receiving a Social Security payment today, October 15?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Today, payments are to be made to certain recipients of retirement benefits, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or survivor pay.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Of the just over 70 million people who receive retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits in the U.S., most get their payment on one of three Wednesdays each month, <a href=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/social-security-to-make-payments-today-wednesday-september-10-this-is-whos-receiving-a-check-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/social-security-to-make-payments-today-wednesday-september-10-this-is-whos-receiving-a-check-n\/\">beginning on the second Wednesday<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">A recipient\u2019s designated Wednesday is determined by the date of birth of the worker whose Social Security taxes have accumulated the benefits entitlement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">For example, if you receive retirement pay based on your own work record, your birthday is used. If you claim retirement benefits <a href=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/spousal-social-security-benefits-explained-everything-you-need-to-know-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/spousal-social-security-benefits-explained-everything-you-need-to-know-n\/\">based on a spouse or parent\u2019s<\/a> employment history, the spouse or parent\u2019s date of birth is used. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">On October 15, the SSA is to issue benefits to recipients whose date of birth (or relevant family member\u2019s date of birth) falls between the 11th and 20th of each month. <\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Weds. payment schedule - Oct. 2025:\" href=\"\" rel=\"\">Weds. payment schedule &#8211; Oct. 2025:<\/a><br \/>\nWeds., Oct. 8: Beneficiaries born on 1st to 10th<br \/>\nWeds., Oct. 15: Beneficiaries born on 11th to 20th<br \/>\nWeds., Oct. 22: Beneficiaries born on 21st to 31st<\/p>\n<p>Who gets their check on the 2nd, 3rd or 4th Wednesday? Some long-term Social Security beneficiaries<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">If you started claiming retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits before May 1997, your check typically goes out on the third of each month, irrespective of your date of birth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">These long-term beneficiaries were therefore scheduled to be paid on Friday, October 3.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) &#8211; a separate SSA benefit for low-income individuals who are over 65 or have a disability &#8211; are normally paid on the first of each month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">This month\u2019s SSI payments therefore went out <a href=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/these-are-the-only-people-who-get-a-check-from-social-security-today-wednesday-oct-1-find-out-whos-receiving-a-payment-n\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/en.as.com\/latest_news\/these-are-the-only-people-who-get-a-check-from-social-security-today-wednesday-oct-1-find-out-whos-receiving-a-payment-n\/\">on Wednesday, October 1.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dual beneficiaries (SSI + regular Social Security)<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Just over 2.5 million people in the U.S. receive both SSI and one of the SSA\u2019s retirement, SSDI or survivor benefits. <\/p>\n<p class=\"\">These recipients normally were due to get the former on October 1, followed by the latter on October 3.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Recipients outside 2nd, 3rd and 4th Weds. - Oct. 2025\" href=\"\" rel=\"\">Recipients outside 2nd, 3rd and 4th Weds. &#8211; Oct. 2025<\/a><br \/>\nSSI beneficiaries: Weds., Oct. 1<br \/>\nPre-May &#8217;97 Social Sec. recipients: Fri., Oct. 3<br \/>\nDual beneficiaries: SSI paid on Oct. 1; Social Sec. paid on Oct. 3<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">You can take a look at the SSA\u2019s full payment schedule for 2025 in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/pubs\/EN-05-10031-2025.pdf\">online calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How much do retirement recipient get per month?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Retired workers &#8211; who make up the vast majority of the U.S.\u2019s Social Security beneficiaries &#8211; are paid an average of $2,008.31 per month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/policy\/docs\/quickfacts\/stat_snapshot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/policy\/docs\/quickfacts\/stat_snapshot\/\">the SSA says.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>How much do other SSA beneficiaries get per month?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Disabled workers receive an average of $1,582.95 a month, while beneficiaries of survivor pay are issued a monthly average of $1,575.30. SSI beneficiaries receive a monthly average of $717.84.<\/p>\n<p>How does are Social Security payments sent out?<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Over 99% of checks are now paid electronically, as the SSA <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/news\/en\/advocates\/2025-09-10.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/news\/en\/advocates\/2025-09-10.html\">seeks to go fully paperless<\/a>. As of September 30, indeed, the agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/news\/en\/advocates\/2025-09-10.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.ssa.gov\/news\/en\/advocates\/2025-09-10.html\">says<\/a> recipients will \u201cin most cases\u201d no longer be given the option of being mailed a paper check.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">The SSA offers its benefits recipients two ways of receiving electronic payments:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\">Beneficiaries can receive their money by direct deposit, by providing the agency with their bank details.
