LOUIS \u2014 Blackhawks captain <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/players\/nick-foligno\/42f6d573-0f24-11e2-8525-18a905767e44\" class=\"sn-player-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-player=\"42f6d573-0f24-11e2-8525-18a905767e44\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Nick Foligno<\/a> is taking a leave of absence because his 12-year-old daughter is having follow-up surgery related to her congenital heart disease.<\/p>\n<p>The team made the announcement on Wednesday. The organization had no further comment.<\/p>\n<p>Foligno, who turns 38 on Oct. 31, is in his third season with Chicago. The forward has no goals and two assists in four games.<\/p>\n<p>The Blackhawks were at St. Louis on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s a great, elite leader. He\u2019s an extension of the coaching staff,\u201d coach Jeff Blashill said of Foligno. \u201cAnd, so, now I think we have other guys in the room that can help pick it up. It\u2019s like, as if he was injured, just next man up has to do the job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Foligno became the 35th captain of the Original Six team in\u00a0September 2024. His father, Mike, played in the NHL for 15 years, and his brother, Marcus, plays for Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Foligno broke into the league with the Ottawa Senators in 2007. He has 247 goals and 352 assists in 1,237 regular-season games, also playing for Columbus, Boston and Toronto.<\/p>\n<p>Foligno&#8217;s daughter, Milana, turned 12 on Tuesday. He also has two sons \u2014 Landon and Hudson \u2014 with his wife, Janelle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ST.
