Since driving the No. 1 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing, he’s led 74 laps and has two top-five finishes, including a victory in April 2022. The win marked Chastain’s second career Cup Series win and Trackhouse’s second victory as an organization. In this year’s spring race, the Florida native led 11 laps and finished 20th.
Meet Chastain: On Sunday at 9:20 a.m. local time, Chastain will sign autographs at the Trackhouse Racing merchandise hauler located in the Fan Zone – wristband required.
Last Weekend at Las Vegas: Chastain qualified 15th for the 267-lap race but was forced to start the race from the rear of the field after repairs were needed from brushing the wall in practice. The Chevrolet driver initially had a loose-handling car to start but the handling improved as the race continued. With 23 laps remaining, Chastain was working his way forward when he received damage from an accident in front of him. He was forced to visit pit road multiple times for repairs and finished 23rd.
Chastain Visits Coronado Naval Base: On his way to Las Vegas, Chastain stopped in San Diego to visit the Coronado Naval Base which is the site for next season’s street race in June. In addition to celebrating the Navy’s 250th birthday, Chastain visited several media outlets to drum up excitement for the event.
Crew Chief: Chastain and crew chief Phil Surgen have worked together since 2021. The duo is the third longest active driver and crew chief pairing.
Most Wins for No. 1 Car in Cup Series: The No. 1 car has been to victory lane six times with Chastain since 2022, the most wins by a driver with that number. Jamie McMurray previously held the record with four victories in the No. 1 car.

Chastain Quotes:

How do you approach Talladega?

“Talladega is such a wild-card. You truly have no idea how it’s going to go for you. You can be the fastest car but that doesn’t guarantee you’ll win. You need to be a little bit lucky to avoid the accidents so you can even have a shot at winning at the end. There really hasn’t been a pattern for me at this track. I’ve won it from a last lap pass to ending up wrecked making a high-risk move for position, you just truly don’t know what is going to happen. That’s why the fans like it so much, you just never know who is going to win.”

Your car has a little bit different look this weekend.

“I hope I’m going so fast that it’s hard to see me with the Busch Light Hunting scheme. Busch Light does a great job with their specialty schemes and I can’t think of a better track to run a Hunting scheme than Talladega. I had fun shooting content in the woods for it. “

About Busch Light:

Busch Light is made with exceptional ingredients and has a crisp, refreshing taste that is as cold and smooth as a mountain stream. The beer brewed for the great outdoors takes cracking a cold one and heading for the mountains seriously, with passion points rooted in fishing, hunting, farming, NASCAR and country music. Earlier this season at the 2.66-mile superspeedway, Van Gisbergen finished 29th after a pit road penalty late in the race set him back. His best superspeedway finish this season, 16th, came in August at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, marking his first Cup Series top-20 on a drafting track.
Last Weekend in Las Vegas: In only his third Cup Series start at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Van Gisbergen started 13th and worked his way forward the entire day. He ran inside the top-10 most of the race before he was collected in an accident following a restart with 21 laps remaining, ending his day prematurely.
Rookie Records: Van Gisbergen holds the record of most wins by a Sunoco Rookie in a single season (five). The Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International victory makes Van Gisbergen the fastest driver to five Cup Series wins since Dan Gurney in 1968. Following his Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway win, Van Gisbergen became the first driver since Jeff Gordon to win three consecutive road course Cup races from the pole. The Auckland, New Zealand native is the only driver not from the United States to win at least four NASCAR Cup Series races.
Two-Time Inaugural Race Winner: Van Gisbergen has etched himself into the NASCAR history books by winning two inaugural NASCAR Cup Series races. The New Zealand native captured the win in the first-ever Mexico City race in June, and in 2023, Van Gisbergen won his debut Cup Series race with Trackhouse’s PROJECT91 at the Chicago Street Race.
Winning Crew Chief: Stephen Doran is now a five-time winning crew chief after securing the checkered flag at the Charlotte ROVAL earlier this month. Doran’s first win as a Cup Series Crew Chief in June at Mexico City with Van Gisbergen. Doran is in his first season as Van Gisbergen’s crew chief on the No. 88 Chevrolet and his second year as a crew chief at the Cup level.
WeatherTech’s Story: Headquartered in the greater Chicago area, WeatherTech is home to factories, warehouses, order fulfillment, customer service, a corporate office, a factory store and much more. The agreement will keep the former V8 Supercars driver at Trackhouse Racing.
Meet SVG: On Sunday at 9:20 a.m. local time, Van Gisbergen will be participating in a Q&A at the Chevrolet Display located in the Fan Zone. At 9:40 a.m. local time, Van Gisbergen will sign autographs at the Trackhouse Racing merchandise hauler also located in the Fan Zone (wristband required).

Van Gisbergen Quotes:

What do you think about Talladega?

“It’s crazy and very different than a traditional oval. We are doing 320 kilometers in a pack of 40 cars. It’s amazing how fast we are going, all squeezed together. Talladega is one of the most difficult races that we do. Hopefully this weekend we can prove that we are getting better at that (superspeedway racing) too and get a good result.”

There are only ovals left on the schedule this season. Is there a certain oval you like the best?

“I like the challenge of all of them. I like how different they all are. The intermediates, they look the same shape on paper, but when you go there, they all drive so differently. I really like the challenge of finding all the little integrities on the track and what makes the cars work.”

You have received massive amounts of support from the people of New Zealand, and even Australia this season. How special is that to you?

“The support I’ve gotten coming over here (United States) has been great! As I always say, when New Zealanders or Aussies go overseas, the support we get is amazing. It’s in all different series, like IndyCar, Formula 1 and Formula E, it’s so cool to see the support we get and it’s really appreciated. Every track I go to, there are always some Kiwis or Aussies there to support me. It’s really special.”

About WeatherTech:

For decades, WeatherTech has delivered on its promise of quality and craftsmanship through a commitment to American-made auto, home and pet products. His best finish came in the 2022 fall event where he scored an eighth-place finish. The driver of the Freeway Insurance Chevrolet has four top-10 finishes in his last six starts at Talladega, including a ninth-place effort in the April event at the 2.66-mile superspeedway. Suárez owns two top-10 finishes in three NASCAR Xfinity Series starts at Talladega – his best finish was seventh-place in 2016.
Strong Performance by Suárez at Talladega in 2022: Suárez enjoyed perhaps his strongest performance at Talladega in the 2022 spring event. He qualified fourth and led 28 laps before being sidelined with damage from an accident midway through the race.
Last Weekend at Las Vegas: Suárez led Trackhouse Racing with a 20th-place finish on the lead lap last weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. He enjoyed a steady day and avoided two cautions in the final stage – including an 11-car pileup 21 laps from the finish – to claim his result.
Career: Suárez owns two victories (Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway 2022 and Atlanta Motor Speedway 2024) and three Busch Light Pole Awards – Pocono (Pa.) Raceway July 2018, Kentucky Speedway July 2019, and on the road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway August 2023.
Personal Life: Suárez married Julia Piquet, daughter of three-time Formula One World Champion Nelson Piquet, at a ceremony on July 30 in Brazil. The couple took a delayed honeymoon trip to Japan in the offseason. He is also now a dual citizen of Mexico and the United States. He took the American Oath of Allegiance at a naturalization ceremony last June in front of media, friends, the NASCAR industry and NASCAR Commissioner Steve Phelps, who gave the keynote address to the 48 new citizens from 28 countries who joined Suárez at the ceremony. The 33-year-old Monterrey, Mexico native arrived in America about 13 years ago, unable to speak English.
Mexico Success: Suárez returned to his native country in June as NASCAR held its inaugural race at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City. A week of fan and media activity included a 19th-place finish in the Cup race. But few will forget his drive from last place to first in the No. 9 Quaker State Chevrolet for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series race and the celebration in front of the raucous fans. It marked the first time in any NASCAR series that a driver had done that on a road course. His victory, coupled with Van Gisbergen’s, marks the first time since 2009 that international drivers have swept a race weekend.
Trackhouse Racing and Suárez Agree to Part Ways: Trackhouse Racing and Suárez announced on July 1 that they have mutually decided to conclude their partnership following the 2025 season. The move allows Suárez to pursue new opportunities in his racing career.
2026: Trackhouse Development driver and Xfinity racer Connor Zilisch will join Trackhouse’s Cup lineup in 2026. Trackhouse announced on Sept. 23 that Randall Burnett will serve as Zilisch’s crew chief in 2026.

Suárez Quotes:

You have been able to run inside the top-10 consistently in recent races at Talladega. Does that make you optimistic about this weekend?

“The racing at Talladega can get so crazy but it’s a lot of fun when you can stay out of trouble and have a good day. We’ve been able to do that quite a bit in the last few races there. It was an up-and-down day for our team in the spring race. I thought our car had speed, but we needed to improve the balance. Our guys on pit road executed well when it counted the most late in the race. Everyone at Trackhouse does a great job preparing our Freeway Insurance Chevrolet and ECR gives us great engines, especially at Talladega and Daytona. I certainly think we can have another strong run this weekend.”

Do you like racing at Talladega?

“I love Talladega. At first, I really didn’t like superspeedway racing but the more I did it the more I started to enjoy it. We have been so close so many times on the superspeedway. One of these days we are going to win one of these races and I hope it is Sunday.”

Trackhouse Racing PR

With just three races remaining in the NASCAR season, fans can vote for their favorite driver.
