{"id":216429,"date":"2025-10-16T04:04:06","date_gmt":"2025-10-16T04:04:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/216429\/"},"modified":"2025-10-16T04:04:06","modified_gmt":"2025-10-16T04:04:06","slug":"nascar-leadership-execs-were-worried-about-pga-liv-esque-split","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/216429\/","title":{"rendered":"NASCAR leadership execs were worried about PGA, LIV-esque split"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bombshell text messages were revealed on Wednesday by 23XI Racing\/Front Row Motorsports in a court filing in the teams&#8217; antitrust case against NASCAR.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The messages, which were sent in June 2022, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/bobpockrass\/status\/1978641789998301206?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">per<\/a> Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, are between NASCAR president Steve O&#8217;Donnell and executive vice president Ben Kennedy.<\/p>\n<p>Texts reveal NASCAR leadership was scared of potential golf-esque split<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Donnell appeared to be worried about NASCAR facing a split similar to what the PGA Tour and LIV Golf went through in 2022 \u2014 especially in light of the antitrust lawsuit that was brought forth in October 2024, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/sports\/racing\/worst-case-23xi-racing-frm-lawsuit-scenario-revealed-nascar-2001372\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">floated around<\/a> as a fringe possibility in 2024.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I just watched (Jay) Monahan&#8217;s press conference,&#8221; O&#8217;Donnell said in his <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jeff_gluck\/status\/1978648605130186773\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">message\u00a0<\/a>to Kennedy. &#8220;I don&#8217;t ever want to see you in that position. We need to lock ourselves in a room and war-game this thing.
