Diane Keaton\u2019s<\/a> cause of death has been released days after the Oscar-winning actor died at the age of 79<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Annie Hall\u00a0actor died in California on Oct. 11, surrounded by loved ones, her family confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11,\u201d Keaton\u2019s family said in a statement to People<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Her family went on to share the causes she was passionate about.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n

The unexpected news of Keaton\u2019s death was met with shock around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was hilarious, a complete original, and completely without guile, or any of the competitiveness one would have expected from such a star. What you saw was who she was\u2026oh, la, lala!,\u201d Bette Midler<\/a> said in a post on Instagram. She and Keaton co-starred in The First Wives Club.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do we say goodbye? What words can come to mind when your heart is broken? You never liked praise, so humble, but now you can\u2019t tell me to \u2018shut up\u2019 honey. There was, and will be, no one like you,\u201d Goldie Hawn<\/a> wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

Steve Martin<\/a> shared a moment from an interview with Keaton on Instagram, with Martin Short<\/a> asking her, \u201cWho\u2019s sexier, me or Steve Martin?\u201d<\/p>\n

And yet even she hesitated to return for the sequel, though after reading the script, she decided otherwise.<\/p>\n

Keaton also played a businessperson who unexpectedly inherits an infant in Baby Boom, the mother of the bride in the beloved remake of\u00a0Father of the Bride, a newly single woman in\u00a0The First Wives Club, and a divorced playwright who gets involved with Jack Nicholson\u2019s music executive in\u00a0Something\u2019s Gotta Give.<\/p>\n

Keaton won her first Oscar for\u00a0Annie Hall\u00a0and would go on to be nominated three more times, for\u00a0Reds,\u00a0Marvin\u2019s Room\u00a0and\u00a0Something\u2019s Gotta Give.<\/p>\n
