Years of competition sharpen leadership skills during breakout senior season<\/p>\n

FARMINGTON \u2013 Logan Webb\u2019s impact isn\u2019t flashy. It\u2019s built quietly, through grit and steady effort.<\/p>\n
A five-year varsity athlete in both soccer and cross country, the Farmington senior has grown into one of the most trusted leaders on both teams. Since eighth grade, she has juggled the demands of school and two sports each fall, building endurance not only in her legs but in her voice, her confidence and her ability to lead others.<\/p>\n
This year, she has taken on captain duties across both programs. The role demands plenty, but for Webb, it\u2019s simply part of who she is.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been rough,\u201d she said. \u201cBut I\u2019ve been doing both since eighth grade, so I feel like I\u2019ve had to learn how to give and take in some places. I\u2019m also captain in both, so I\u2019m trying to be a better leader.\u201d<\/p>\n
Webb built her leadership skills year by year, shaped by challenges that pushed her to step up, and has found the role more natural in her senior year.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been on this team since eighth grade, and I\u2019ve always been floating up to varsity,\u201d Webb said. \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve become more comfortable with the team, and the girls are really my best friends. I\u2019ve just learned to talk to them and lead in ways that are helpful to the team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Farmington girls\u2019 soccer head coach Bryce Frost said Webb\u2019s growth has been an important part of the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the way they work, talk and hang out together, it makes more sense for the girls to be the team leaders,\u201d Frost said. \u201cWe can say it, but it\u2019s better coming from their captains and leaders on the team and (Webb) has been one of our great leaders this year for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n
Over her varsity career, Webb has steadily contributed to Farmington\u2019s offense. This season, she has three goals and 11 shots, building on previous years with consistent goals and assists. She\u2019s also reliable on defense, recording 33 steals to keep opponents\u2019 shots away from the net.<\/p>\n
One of Webb\u2019s standout moments came in a recent district rivalry victory against Piedra Vista on Oct. 8.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was so exciting,\u201d she said. \u201c(Teammate Brooklyn Herrera) passed the ball through, and I ran up and just kicked it into the corner of the goal. We all celebrated and it was super awesome.\u201d<\/p>\n
Late in the second half, Herrera slipped a pass through the back line. Webb connected, and the ball slid past Panther goalie Alita Mosely to give Farmington a 3-2 edge.<\/p>\n
With the regular season winding down, Farmington eyes a postseason run. The Scorpions built on last year\u2019s winning record (10-9-2 overall, 3-6-1 in district play). This season, they stand at 10-4-2 overall and 2-2-2 in district, currently fourth in District 1-5A behind Piedra Vista.<\/p>\n
Webb hopes to lead Farmington into the postseason, praising the team\u2019s energy this season. The Scorpions welcome Volcano Vista to Hutchison Stadium for a key district match Saturday at 11 a.m.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re just excited,\u201d she said. \u201cWe want to make it to state, so we\u2019re working hard together.\u201d<\/p>\n
As her final high school season nears its end, Webb just wants to leave things better than she found them. And by all accounts, she already has done just that.<\/p>\n
