Al-Ghamari was a member of the Houthis\u2019 \u201cJihad Office,\u201d led by Abdul Malik al-Houthi, responsible for overseeing military operations.<\/p>\n
Though the Houthis did not directly blame Israel for his killing, the rebel group stressed that their conflict with the Jewish state had not ended.<\/p>\n

\t\t\t\tBy signing up, you agree to the terms<\/a><\/p>\n Israel will \u201creceive its deterrent punishment for the crimes it has committed,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu boasted following the announcement that \u201canother chief of staff was eliminated from the ranks of terror leaders who sought to harm us.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIsrael\u2019s determined hand will reach everyone who has tried to harm us and made it their goal to destroy Israel,\u201d Netanyahu\u2019s office promised in a statement.<\/p>\n Also responding to the Houthi announcement, Defense Minister Israel Katz said, \u201cHe joins his friends, the eliminated members of the axis of evil, in the depths of hell.\u201d He added that Israel will take similar action \u201cagainst any threat in the future as well.\u201d<\/p>\n The IDF said that al-Ghamari had served as Houthi chief of staff since 2016, after several other senior roles in the Iran-backed group. Over the years, he played \u201ca key role in building the military capabilities\u201d of the Houthis, the military says.<\/p>\n Al-Ghamari had also received training by operatives from Lebanon\u2019s Hezbollah and Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in Syria, Lebanon, and Iran, according to the IDF.<\/p>\n During the war, the military said al-Ghamari was involved in planning and carrying out ballistic missile, drone, and cruise missile attacks against Israel and commercial ships sailing in the Red Sea.<\/p>\n \t Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Intelligence Directorate chief Maj. At the time, reports indicated that al-Ghamari had survived but was severely wounded.<\/p>\n The IDF confirmed at the time that it had targeted him, but said that the results of the attack were unclear.<\/p>\n Katz said he also visited the Military Intelligence Directorate\u2019s so-called \u201cHouthi command center\u201d on Thursday with the directorate\u2019s chief, Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder, where he thanked the soldiers and commanders \u201cfor the excellent work they have done and have yet to do against the Houthis in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n The Houthis \u2014 whose slogan calls for \u201cDeath to America, Death to Israel, [and] a Curse on the Jews\u201d \u2014 began attacking Israel and maritime traffic in November 2023, a month after the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacre.<\/p>\n \t Yemenis lift placards and Palestinian flags during a rally against Israel and the United States, in the Houthi-run capital Sanaa on July 18, 2025. (Mohammed Huwais\/AFP)<\/p>\n The Houthis in Yemen have fired over 130 ballistic missiles and dozens of drones and cruise missiles at Israel, including one that killed a civilian and wounded several others in Tel Aviv in July 2024.<\/p>\n In response, Israel has attacked the Houthis, located some 1,800 kilometers (1,100 miles) away, 19 times.<\/p>\n The Houthis\u2019 leader, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, said following the announcement of a Gaza ceasefire last week that the group would resume its attacks on Israel if they deem Jerusalem has failed to hold up its side of the deal.<\/p>\n Times of Israel staff contributed to this report.<\/p>\n
