Before Cole Caufield came around, this NHL record had stood for nearly a century.<\/p>\n

Back in the 1920s and 1930s, Frank Finnigan was as clutch as they come. If you gave the Ottawa Senators<\/a> legend overtime, he knew how to finish it.<\/p>\n

Finnigan reached 10 career overtime goals in 304 games played, a pace that hadn’t been matched by anyone in the ensuing 88 years since his career ended in 1937.<\/p>\n

Until now.<\/p>\n

Enter the Montreal Canadiens<\/a>‘ star Caufield.<\/p>\n

Caufield called game with a shot into the roof of the net on Wednesday night against the Nashville Predators<\/a>. It was his 10th career overtime goal.<\/p>\n

And Caufield got to 10 OT goals in just 292 games.<\/p>\n

Sportsnet shared the stat on X<\/a>, prompting some replies using the name “Cole Clutchfield.”<\/p>\n

In that win over Nashville, Caufield had also scored the game-tying goal with just 19.5 seconds left in regulation.<\/p>\n

“You got to cherish these moments,” Caufield told reporters<\/a> after the win.<\/p>\n

Caufield was then asked about the record.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty cool,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s a lot of overtimes we\u2019re playing in. That\u2019s ten wins, so that\u2019s good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Clutch indeed.<\/p>\n
