Saskatchewan Roughriders’ quarterback Trevor Harris is humble about his start to this year\u2019s CFL season.\u00a0He’s\u00a0on pace to do better statistically\u00a0than he did with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2018 when he had a single-season career-high 5,116\u00a0passing yards.<\/p>\n
“I’d probably lean to the experts out there that have been telling me that or been saying that in the media. I try and do the best I can, one play at a time, to be completely transparent. I\u00a0don’t want to let the guys down,\u00a0I think that’s\u00a0one of the big things that has always driven me \u2014\u00a0my teammates \u2014 and\u00a0trying to get better for them every year. But I remember saying at the end of last year, I thought my best football was ahead of me, so I hope it’s true,” Harris said.<\/p>\n
“I hope it continues to be true\u00a0and I think it is. To be honest, I think we’ve got another level and we’ve got to keep demanding more out of each other. For us to play at a high level, there have to be people around you. That’s one thing about football: it’s going to challenge you mentally, emotionally,\u00a0physically and ask you to be a part of something bigger than yourself.\u00a0If you’re having success, it’s bigger than you. The fact that I’m seen as having a successful year so far, it’s bigger than me. It’s staff, players and everybody together.”<\/p>\n
Through five games with the Redblacks\u00a0in 2018, Harris had a\u00a03-2 win-loss record with\u00a01,278 passing yards, six touchdowns and four interceptions. Through the 39-year-old’s first five starts with the Green and White in 2025, he has a 4-1 win-loss record with\u00a01,626 yards, nine touchdowns\u00a0and four interceptions. Head coach Corey Mace is proud of Harris, but he sees one focus for his team.<\/p>\n
“As long as he’s moving the offence efficiently, which is important to him, it’s important to us, that’s all we care about,\u00a0and he’s doing that,” Mace said. “Whether he’s the best or not, certainly\u00a0those things are talked about at the end of the season. He’s got a long road ahead, but certainly knowing Trevor and what we do here, he’s trying to be the best quarterback.”<\/p>\n
