Wolf Alice<\/a> have responded to making Mercury Prize<\/a> history as the first act to be nominated for the award for four different albums.<\/p>\n

The band were first shortlisted for the prize in 2015 for their debut album, \u2018My Love Is Cool\u2019<\/a>. They then took home the trophy in 2018<\/a> for \u2018Visions Of A Life\u2019<\/a> and were shortlisted again in 2021 for \u2018Blue Weekend\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Their fourth album \u2018The Clearing\u2019<\/a> was confirmed to be on the shortlist for this year\u2019s Mercury Prize, giving the band the record. They performed \u2018Bloom Baby Bloom\u2019<\/a> at the ceremony at Newcastle\u2019s Utilita Arena last night (October 16). Speaking to NME from the red carpet ahead of the event, they reflected on the history-making nomination.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s overwhelming,\u201d said drummer Joel Amey. \u201cI think it will settle in, maybe post the ceremony. People keep mentioning, and I\u2019m like, \u2018Wow, that is incredible.\u2019 We\u2019re very grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Turning their attention to \u2018The Clearing\u2019\u2019s nomination, bassist Theo Ellis added: \u201cIt\u2019s so nice for anyone to recognise what you\u2019ve worked really hard on. We\u2019re really proud of this album and if anyone likes it, that means a lot. This institution champions such great records, they\u2019re people who really revere the art of making an album and we wanted to make a proper album-album this time, so I think that\u2019s double nice. We\u2019re happy to come and have a drink.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wolf Alice have just returned from North America, where they completed their first stint of touring in support of \u2018The Clearing\u2019. Towards the end of the tour, the band shared a post on Instagram, talking about the little moments during the gigs. \u201cI die when I see your star patches or blue glittery eyeshadows, dead when I see that green tee with the white sleeves, dead when I see guys dancing to \u2018Just Two Girls\u2019<\/a>, dead when the sparkly curtain catches the light,\u201d the caption partially read.<\/p>\n

Singer and guitarist Ellie Rowsell reflected on the run of shows so far, saying: \u201cIt does feel different. It\u2019s really exciting. I feel like everyone\u2019s playing better and we\u2019ve put a little bit more thought and fun into the performance.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band\u2019s tour will continue across Europe before the UK leg begins at the end of November<\/a>. The final stint will see them headline two nights at London\u2019s The O2 for their biggest headline shows to date. \u201cShit scared,\u201d Amey replied when asked how they\u2019re feeling about the gigs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m up for it. They\u2019re gonna be fun. It\u2019s obviously strange because Joff [Oddie, guitarist] wasn\u2019t with us for this last tour, but it was the first time we\u2019ve brought these songs to the stage and I\u2019ve been loving it, so now we\u2019re just going to keep building upon that as the weeks go past.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oddie sat out of the North American tour<\/a> in September as he was awaiting the birth of his first baby. \u201cI\u2019m sad I won\u2019t be with you but I\u2019ll be leaving you in the capable hands of John Victor who is one of my fav all time guitarists and a lovely man to boot,\u201d he shared in an Instagram post at the time.<\/p>\n

Sam Fender<\/a> was\u00a0crowned the winner of the 2025 Mercury Prize<\/a> last night\u00a0for his third album,\u00a0\u2018People Watching\u2019<\/a>.\u00a0He thanked \u201cvery good friends\u201d Fontaines D.C.<\/a> and CMAT<\/a> during his acceptance speech, saying that he was in \u201cgreat company\u201d on the shortlist.<\/p>\n

In the winner\u2019s room afterwards, Fender added: \u201cWe didn\u2019t think we were going to win anything so I\u2019m still in shock. It\u2019s an absolute honour and it\u2019s amazing it\u2019s happened up here, for the first time outside of London.
