TRIBUTES have poured in after a legendary kickboxer and MMA coach tragically died in his sleep. <\/p>\n

Duke Roufus, 55, was a well-respected mixed martial arts trainer and has been described as a \u201ccelebrated trainer and champion kickboxer\u201d by his long-time friend and business<\/a> partner. <\/p>\n

In a heartfelt tribute posted to social media, Scott Joffe announced Roufus\u2019 death, saying he was a \u201cmentor, innovator, father and friend whose influence transformed the landscape of mixed martial arts\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis knowledge, charisma, and passion inspired countless fighters to reach heights they never imagined possible,\u201d Joffe wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cFrom world champions to first-day students, everyone who crossed his path felt his genuine care and unwavering belief in their potential. <\/p>\n

\u201cHis loss leaves an irreplaceable void in the sport and in the hearts of all who knew him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roufus won multiple titles in his kickboxing career. <\/p>\n

He fought for the final time in 2008. <\/p>\n

UFC<\/a> president Dana White<\/a> was among the mourners who posted to social media<\/a>, sharing a photo of himself together with Roufus, captioned \u201cRIP\u201d. <\/p>\n

Anthony Pettis\u00a0also posted a touching tribute, saying: \u201cWhen my dad was killed you took me in and became my father\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cTogether we did the impossible and made it to the top!\u201d. <\/p>\n

Pettis accompanied the message with a gallery of pictures showing the pair together both in training and outside the octagon. <\/p>\n

\u201cI will always make you proud, you\u2019ve taught me so much,\u201d Pettis continued. <\/p>\n

\u201cI will make sure your legacy continues on.\u201d<\/p>\n

Askren was also among those posting tributes, saying: \u201cGot terrible news last night that my long-time MMA<\/a> coach passed\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cMade me think back to when I moved to Milwaukee to be a full-time MMA fighter in 2011.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Roufus] welcomed me with open arms. I would watch him do for [so] many others over the preceding years, he was really special in that respect,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n

Askren also added: \u201cDuke built a really amazing culture which allowed so many to thrive\u201d. <\/p>\n

\u201cDuke was truly an MMA pioneer, he will be missed greatly.\u201d<\/p>\n

CM Punk<\/a>, WWE icon who spent a brief moment fighting in the UFC also mourned the legendary trainer. <\/p>\n

\u201c[Waking] up in Japan<\/a> trying to process the news,\u201d he wrote. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019ll take a while. You made me a better person, coach.\u201d <\/p>\n

Roufus reportedly died in his sleep on Thursday.<\/p>\n

The icon first came to fame as a fighter, after following the footsteps of his older brother Rick Roufus. <\/p>\n

He collected numerous titles along the way. <\/p>\n

He transitioned into the role of coach full time in 2008, working out of his own gym in Wisconsin. <\/p>\n

Roufus became one of the most successful and well-respected coaches in the sport, working with multiple champions. <\/p>\n

He also promoted fights and worked as a commentator during his legendary career in the sport. <\/p>\n
