{"id":222652,"date":"2025-10-18T16:56:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-18T16:56:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/222652\/"},"modified":"2025-10-18T16:56:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-18T16:56:10","slug":"pharmacists-call-for-expanded-coverage-for-common-ailments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/222652\/","title":{"rendered":"Pharmacists Call for Expanded Coverage for Common Ailments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/dr-ashley-waghmare-city-pharmacy-panl-president-photo-via-twitter.jpg\" class=\"header-image\" alt=\"Pharmacists Call for Expanded Coverage for Common Ailments\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dr Ashley Waghmare, PANL President (Photo via Twitter)<\/p>\n<p>The Pharmacy Association of Newfoundland and Labrador is seeking greater universal coverage for pharmacy services that they argue\u00a0is keeping people out of the health care system.<\/p>\n<p>PANL President Dr. Ashley Waghmare says pharmacists have shown their worth since they were compensated for\u00a0treating a list of eight minor ailments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we\u2019re at about 30,000 residents in this province (who) have been assessed and potentially prescribed for a UTI by a pharmacist, so that\u2019s 30,000 people who we are keeping out of doctors\u2019 offices, out of waiting rooms and I certainly think we\u2019ve kind of shown what we can do to help with the health care system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She says there are only eight common ailments that they are currently receiving coverage for, but they are able to assess and prescribe 33 common ailments \u2013 including strep throat and a range of women\u2019s health issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, 25 of those are not covered under this universal coverage.
