Norm Benning is tough as nails. The 73-year-old had a terrifying moment today at Talladega when his truck burst into flames. It was a fire that engulfed most of the truck. One of those incidents that makes you hold your breath as a NASCAR <\/a>fan. <\/p>\n

We have seen these trucks catch fire in the past. Jordan Anderson had a terrifying moment a few years ago at Talladega. So, everyone was just hoping to see Norm Benning get out of the truck. Thankfully, he did. Here is the incident on Lap 65. <\/p>\n

Norm Benning spent time in the infield care center. He then spoke to the media afterwards. His response to the fire? It\u2019s like nothing even happened, and get this, he\u2019s racing next week at Martinsville, too. <\/p>\n

\u201cA little smoke inhalation and right lung, I gotta go back in the morning for some treatments,\u201d Benning told Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports<\/a>. \u201cBut I\u2019ve never been in an explosion like that. That whole bottom end of that engine must have just came apart and filled up with fire and smoke. \u2026 I\u2019ve never got out of a race car so fast in my life. <\/p>\n

\u201cI had the net down and the belts loose before I got stopped. Just got out of there as quick as I could. I was holding my breath, and I couldn\u2019t hold my breath anymore, and I took in some smoke. But my whole right side feels like it\u2019s sunburnt, but I\u2019m fine. I\u2019ll be at Martinsville next week.\u201d <\/p>\n

So, what\u2019s the worst part? For Norm Benning, it\u2019s the fact he lost an engine. By the way, his truck today is going to be the one he takes to Daytona in February. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m just disappointed I lost an engine, that\u2019s all. I\u2019ve got to replace this Ilmor engine now for Daytona,\u201d Benning continued. \u201cThat\u2019s my concern, I\u2019m fine. You know, that happens. I never expected it to do that, you know, the engine only had two races on it, so.\u201d <\/p>\n

When people talk about Norm Benning being a racer, it is just something that is inherent. You can\u2019t fake it, especially after a wreck like tonight. So, what does Benning really think about the whole incident? <\/p>\n
