The 2025 season marks the first year in NASCAR history that a fastest lap has points on the line.<\/p>\n

The Xfinity Fastest Lap initiative awards one point to the driver that runs the fastest single lap of a race, and that bonus increases the maximum points a driver can earn in one race to 61 (71 for the Coca-Cola 600). And as we saw last November<\/a>, every point a driver can earn will come in handy during the playoffs.<\/p>\n

An interesting tidbit to track as the season goes on will be how often the driver with the fastest lap ends up winning the race. As of Oct. 18, 87 races have been contested across NASCAR\u2019s top three series in 2025.<\/p>\n

Of the 87 race winners, 19 of them went on to earn the fastest lap bonus. Seven of the 19 winners scored the maximum 61 points (race win, two stage wins & the fastest lap): Kyle Larson <\/a>in the Cup race at Kansas, Larson in the Xfinity race at Bristol, Justin Allgaier<\/a> in the Xfinity race at Nashville, Connor Zilisch<\/a> in the Xfinity race at Portland and Corey Heim<\/a> in the Truck races at Charlotte, Lime Rock and New Hampshire.<\/p>\n

Denny Hamlin<\/a> leads the Cup Series by scoring eight of the 33 fastest lap points this season while Connor Zilisch<\/a> leads Xfinity with seven fastest laps out of 31. Likewise, Corey Heim<\/a> leads the way in Trucks with seven fastest laps in 23 races. What do all three have in common? They each lead their respective series in race wins for 2025.<\/p>\n

Below is a chart of the drivers that earned the bonus point (as well as the speed they ran) in every Cup, Xfinity and Craftsman Truck Series race run this year. Races where the driver went on to win are in bold, while races where the driver went on to score the maximum 61 points are in bold red. The chart has been updated through the second Xfinity race at Talladega Superspeedway.<\/p>\n
