As the 2025 NASCAR<\/a> Cup Series playoffs intensify, veteran driver Chase\u202fElliott<\/a> finds himself squarely in do-or-die territory \u2014 yet rather than swirl in pressure, he\u2019s embracing clarity and experience, even as Dale Earnhardt Jr. recently shared his theory about Elliott retiring from NASCAR.<\/a><\/p>\n

Elliott, who drives the No. 9 Chevrolet for Hendrick\u202fMotorsports, is currently six spots below the cut-line in the Round of 8, trailing by 23 points behind the last transfer position.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

With the elimination race looming at Martinsville\u202fSpeedway on Oct. 26, he acknowledged the urgency but kept things grounded: \u201cI think for me, it\u2019s pretty simple. I feel like we\u2019ve got to go win. And if we don\u2019t, we\u2019ve got to have really good opportunities to win, to call ourselves out of the position that we\u2019re in.\u201d It comes after Elliott weighed in on a recent NASCAR change to horsepower<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a recent interview, Elliott detailed the nuance of track conditions this weekend. \u201cIt\u2019s kind of speedway racing in fast motion almost,\u201d he said. \u201cWhereas here in Daytona, the straightaways are longer\u2026 Everything is just a little further stretched out. So I would still put here in Daytona closer than I would Atlanta.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added, reflecting on his mental place, that familiarity in this situation is a silver-lining: \u201cI know that you\u2019re just like, well, it\u2019s just another year where we have to dig ourselves out of a hole. It\u2019s not any different than the other times we\u2019ve had to dig ourselves out of a hole.\u201d<\/p>\n

The importance of his tone lies in the fact that Elliott has indeed been \u201cthere before\u201d \u2014 he\u2019s navigated tight finishes, high stakes and elimination-style formats.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cFortunately or unfortunately, this is a situation that we are very seasoned at being at. And I think that\u2026 there are upsides to that.\u201d he explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Indeed, while the field has tightened, with Denny\u202fHamlin clinching his spot and drivers such as Kyle\u202fLarson (+35), Christopher\u202fBell (+20) and Chase\u202fBriscoe (+15) now above the cut-line, Elliott will need more than consistency: he\u2019ll need a win or near-flawless weekend.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

He reflected on last week\u2019s run, saying, \u201cLast week, I don\u2019t think our result was a great indication of just the job we did throughout the week and throughout the entire weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo honestly, I was really proud of our pace last week and the fight and being up there in the mix and doing the things that we need to do.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elliott expanded on the mindset for this stretch: \u201cI\u2019m gonna try and make my decisions based off of what I think is the right decision at that time to give ourselves the best chance to win. And if it works out, then great.
