\n The Louvre, the world\u2019s most-visited museum<\/a> in Paris, France, has closed on Sunday following a robbery of \u201cpriceless jewelry,\u201d the French interior minister has said.\n <\/p>\n

\n French Interior Minister Laurent Nu\u00f1ez told radio station France Inter: \u201cA major robbery took place this morning in the Apollo Room. Individuals entered the Louvre Museum from outside, using a external freight elevator that was positioned on a truck.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The Apollo Room houses the French Crown Jewels, as well as treasures including Louis XIV\u2019s hardstone vessel collection.\n <\/p>\n

\n The thieves forced open a window using an angle grinder and stole jewelry that has \u201csentimental value and is priceless,\u201d the interior minister added.\n <\/p>\n

\n There were \u201cthree or four perpetrators,\u201d Nu\u00f1ez said.\n <\/p>\n

\n A detailed list of the stolen items is being compiled, the French interior ministry said in a statement.\n <\/p>\n

\n The robbery took only seven minutes, with the suspects fleeing on motorcycles, Nu\u00f1ez told France Inter.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cClearly, a team had been scouting the location. It was obviously a very experienced team that acted very, very quickly,\u201d the interior minister said.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI am confident that we will very quickly find the perpetrators and, above all, recover the stolen goods,\u201d he added.\n <\/p>\n

\n Minister of Culture Rachida Dati said the robbery took place on Sunday morning as the museum opened. The French interior ministry said the incident took place at 9:30 a.m. local time.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cNo injuries were reported. I am on site alongside museum staff and the police. Investigations are ongoing,\u201d Dati said in a post on X.\n <\/p>\n

\n The museum, which houses world-famous artworks including Leonardo da Vinci\u2019s Mona Lisa, said it would remain closed due to \u201cexceptional reasons.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Last year, the Louvre welcomed 8.7 million visitors, with tourists from the United States making up 13% of all guests, second only to the French.\n <\/p>\n
