\"Kamala Former Vice President Kamala Harris<\/a> said she regrets that Tesla CEO Elon Musk<\/a> was not invited to a White House electric vehicle event four years ago. Speaking at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Washington, D.C., Harris said the decision was wrong. She told Fortune Editor-in-Chief Alyson Shontell: \u201cSo, I thought that was a mistake, and I don\u2019t know Elon Musk, but I have to assume that that was something that hit him hard and had an impact on his perspective\u201d. She continued The event in August 2021 featured executives from General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis but excluded Tesla CEO Elon Musk, even though Tesla produces only electric vehicles. \u201cI write in the book that I thought it was a big mistake to not invite Elon Musk when we did a big EV event,\u201d she told Fortune. \u201cI mean, here he is, the major American manufacturer of extraordinary innovation in this space.\u201dDuring the event, Kamala Harris said that US presidents should \u201cput aside political loyalties\u201d when recognizing technological achievements that benefit the country. The omission then was widely seen as a move to support organized labor, as Tesla plants are not unionized.
