Sometimes it\u2019s not about making a space\u00a0look\u00a0bigger\u2014it\u2019s about making it feel\u00a0right.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>  Paint Ceilings and Trim White  <\/p>\n<p> Credit: <\/p>\n<p>Klaus Vedfelt \/ Getty Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_32-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block lifestyle-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Think twice before reflexively painting your ceiling, trim, and baseboards bright builder-grade white.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_34-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block lifestyle-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;Literally\u00a0the last color that I would paint ceilings or skirting boards would be a brilliant white,&#8221; says London-based interior designer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emiliefournetinteriors.com\/new-page\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"externalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Emilie Fournet<\/a>. &#8220;It&#8217;s always too jarring, clinical and at odds with the rest of most\u00a0color schemes.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_36-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block lifestyle-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> Fournet suggests painting ceilings a few shades lighter than the walls. In large rooms with high ceilings, she says darker ceilings can make a large impact. Tilt them to wash walls with light or to highlight artwork or to light a side or coffee table from above rather than in spots where you will be sitting or standing.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_44-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block lifestyle-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> &#8220;Recessed lights are very unflattering and create shadows on your face, so bear this in mind in bathrooms,&#8221; s spaces.\n<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_52-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block lifestyle-sc-block-html mntl-sc-block-html\"> \u201cBlack offers a sense of depth, grounding the space and making it feel cohesive,&#8221;
