Sure, Jack Black<\/a> is an actor but his legacy is so crossed over with music, thanks to his band Tenacious D and his roles in movies like School Of Rock, that his opinion has become one to listen to. He is however well aware that it does not extend to the actually musicians themselves as he knows when to keep his mouth shut.<\/p>\n

If Black hadn\u2019t gone into the acting world, there\u2019s the sense that he could have dominated in the world of rock. Especially in the realm of hyper-theatrical, super maximalist, head-banging rock with a silly edge, he could\u2019ve ruled the roost. <\/p>\n

Tenacious D proved that. Starting back in the 1990s as a comedy act<\/a> on the Los Angeles music scene, it worked and got famous because it\u2019s the perfect balance of stupid and genuinely good. Both Black and Kyle Gass are great musicians, meaning that even when the songs are joking around, they sound great.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why the opportunities kept coming for them. Not only have they released entire albums, going beyond the band being a live show joke thing and instead becoming legitimised, but they\u2019ve also collaborated with icons. <\/p>\n

In the \u201890s, they supported Tool, Beck and Pearl Jam on tour. They\u2019ve collaborated with Jack White before.<\/a> They also managed to befriend Dave Grohl, getting him to perform on their debut album and appear in the music video for \u2018Tribute\u2019.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a friendship Black doesn\u2019t take lightly. While they\u2019ve settled into a friendly collaborative connection by now, it has never been lost on him that Grohl is a super talent and there is a line to not be crossed.<\/p>\n

As they asked him to come back and perform again on their 2018 album Post-Apocalypto, a journalist for Rolling Stone asked them if they ever dared to give Grohl notes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, let me just say, every time we make a new album, we ask Dave Grohl if he would be available\/interested in throwin\u2019 down on the new Tenacious D record,\u201d Black said as Grohl has a forever invite to join them in the studio. \u201cWe always assume this is the year that he\u2019s gonna say, \u201cSorry, guys, I\u2019m a little busy.\u201d But he fuckin\u2019 comes through. Again, he comes through,\u201d he said, calling it \u201cUnfathomable\u201d as he added, \u201cI don\u2019t know why, I don\u2019t how, but we got him again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Already feeling grateful that the drummer would offer up his time and help, Black continued, \u201cHe crushes it. He crushes it with thunderskins.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

But the big question is, \u201cDo you give him notes?\u201d Black\u2019s answer is simple \u2013 \u201cFirst you wanna hear what\u2019s he gonna do, and there\u2019s always minds blown.\u201d After that, they can pretty much just shut up and let him do whatever he wants to do, because in the mind of Jack Black, \u201cHe\u2019s the greatest living drummer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are you gonna do?\u201d he asked, with Gass riffing, \u201cGo in there and say \u2018Hey, Dave, can you hit a little harder? Come on, bro?\u2019\u201d No, the band know their place and their admiration is far too strong to ever dare to coach a great.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
