The Trail Blazers locked in their young core with a pair of major extensions over the weekend.<\/p>\n
According to ESPN\u2019s Shams Charania<\/a>, Portland agreed to a four-year, $90 million rookie scale extension with Shaedon Sharpe<\/a>, keeping the former No. 7 pick in town through 2029.<\/p>\n Sharpe averaged a career-high 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.8 assists last season, flashing elite scoring ability while still working on consistency and defense. His three-point percentage dipped to 31.1%, and coach Chauncey Billups<\/a> briefly benched him for defensive lapses.<\/p>\n Still, the Blazers view Sharpe as a long-term cornerstone alongside Scoot Henderson<\/a>, and adding veterans Jrue Holiday<\/a> and Damian Lillard<\/a> was aimed at accelerating his growth.<\/p>\n Portland also finalized an $82 million extension with forward Toumani Camara<\/a>, per Charania<\/a>. The 25-year-old was one of the league\u2019s biggest surprises last season, starting all 78 games and earning All-Defensive Second Team honors while averaging 11.3 points and 5.8 boards on 37.5% shooting from deep.<\/p>\n Camara finished top 10 in total steals and became known for his relentless on-ball defense. His new deal replaces his 2026\u201327 team option and keeps him under contract for five more seasons.<\/p>\n The Blazers capped the busy stretch by signing Javonte Cooke<\/a> to a two-way contract<\/a>. The 6-foot-6 guard, who impressed in G League and Canadian Elite League stints, averaged 17.0 points and 5.0 rebounds last year with the OKC Blue. Cooke joins Caleb Love<\/a> and Sidy Cissoko<\/a> as Portland\u2019s three two-way players.<\/p>\n Lakers<\/p>\n Jaxson Hayes<\/a> expects to be ready for opening night despite a mild right wrist sprain suffered Friday, reports Dan Woike of The Athletic<\/a>.<\/p>\n Hayes, 24, will serve as the primary backup to Deandre Ayton<\/a> after starting a career-high 35 games last season. He also shared that he\u2019s pursuing Slovenian citizenship in hopes of playing internationally alongside teammate Luka Doncic<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have the same agent, and our families have been talking about it for a while,\u201d Hayes said, via ESPN\u2019s Dave McMenamin<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019d love to play on that stage \u2014 whatever it takes to make it happen.\u201d<\/p>\n Heat<\/p>\n Jahmir Young<\/a>\u2019s strong camp paid off with a two-way contract from the Heat, as his Exhibit 10 deal was converted over the weekend.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s harder to stay than to get here,\u201d Young said, via Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald<\/a>. \u201cI just want to bring 100 percent every day and help the team.\u201d<\/p>\n Head coach Erik Spoelstra praised the 23-year-old guard for his quickness and shot-making.<\/p>\n \u201cThat speed and ability to get in the paint is unique,\u201d Spoelstra said. \u201cHe was tough to guard in camp.\u201d<\/p>\n Spoelstra also addressed the team\u2019s decision<\/a> to waive Precious Achiuwa<\/a>, calling it \u201ctough\u201d but necessary to stay below the luxury tax threshold.
