Duke Roufus, the legendary kickboxer-turned-MMA coach and founder of Roufusport in Milwaukee, has died at the age of 55. According to longtime friend and business partner Scott Joffe, Roufus passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, October 16. Known for shaping multiple world champions, including Tyron Woodley, Ben Askren, Anthony Pettis, and Sergio Pettis, Roufus left an indelible mark on mixed martial arts. However, as of now, the exact cause of death has not been disclosed.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, the Roufusport family and martial arts world was stunned by the heartbreaking news that Duke Roufus, world-renowned top MMA coach, founder and namesake of Roufusport MMA Academy, passed away peacefully in his sleep,\u201d Joffe wrote on Facebook. \u201cDuke was more than a celebrated trainer and champion kickboxer. He was a mentor, innovator, father and friend whose influence transformed the landscape of mixed martial arts.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cHis knowledge, charisma, and passion inspired countless fighters to reach heights they never imagined possible. From world champions to first-day students, everyone who crossed his path felt his genuine care and unwavering belief in their potential. His loss leaves an irreplaceable void in the sport and in the hearts of all who knew him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nLegacy of Coach Roufus and Champion<\/p>\n

Roufus\u2019 coaching career became legendary largely through his work at Roufusport Martial Arts Academy in Milwaukee, where he molded elite MMA talent. While he trained numerous fighters, his bond with the Pettis brothers stood out as a defining aspect of his career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Before becoming a transformative coach, Roufus carved out an impressive kickboxing career. Following in the footsteps of his older brother Rick Roufus, he amassed a 36-8 professional record in the 1990s and captured prestigious titles for WKA, WAKO, WKBA, KICK, and IKF. His success in the ring laid the foundation for his later achievements as a mentor to fighters who would dominate the UFC and MMA scene.<\/p>\n
