The Mental Health Commission (MHC) has today published four inspection reports for approved inpatient mental health centres, including centres in Castlebar and \u00a0Galway city<\/p>\n
The centres \u00a0in this region inspected \u00a0included:<\/p>\n
St Anne\u2019s Unit, Sacred Heart Hospital, Castlebar which received 94% compliance with the rules, regulations and codes of practice.
\nAdult Acute Mental Health Unit, University Hospital Galway, which received 83% compliance with the rules, regulations and codes of practice<\/p>\n
Some areas of good practices observed over the course of the inspections highlighted include \u2013 \u00a0a new leaflet titled \u2018Eating for a Healthy Heart\u2019, developed and introduced at St Anne\u2019s Unit, Sacred Heart Hospital\u00a0to help residents improve cardiovascular health through diet.<\/p>\n
At the\u00a0Adult Acute Mental Health Unit at University Hospital Galway, four critical risk non-compliances \u00a0were observed. They included Regulations in Privacy; Premises; Risk Management Procedures; and the Rules Governing the Use of Seclusion.
The Mental Health Commission \u00a0requires corrective and preventive action plans \u00a0from all services where non-compliances are identified, each of which must address each non-compliance specifically.<\/p>\n
It monitors the implementation of these plans \u00a0on an ongoing basis and requests further information and action as necessary.<\/p>\n
