Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen has won the United States Grand Prix and closed the gap even further in the drivers\u2019 championship.<\/p>\n

Oscar Piastri led the drivers\u2019 championship<\/a> from Lando Norris<\/a> by 22 points going into the United States Grand Prix<\/a>, but both McLarens will be looking over their shoulders going into the final five races.<\/p>\n

Max Verstappen<\/a> took another significant chunk out of Piastri\u2019s lead, winning both the Sprint Race and Sunday\u2019s Grand Prix in Austin.<\/p>\n

Red Bull have made serious steps forward in recent races, and Verstappen\u2019s US Grand Prix win<\/a> was his fifth of the campaign.<\/p>\n

Verstappen was asked immediately after the race about his championship chances and his pace advantage over Norris.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s sounding more and more confident that he could match Michael Schumacher\u2019s record and win five consecutive titles with each passing race.<\/p>\n

Verstappen was interviewed by Martin Brundle immediately after the race, via Sky Sports<\/a> F1 (19\/10 9:46 pm), about the race and said: \u201cIt was an unbelievable weekend for us. I knew that the race was not going to be super straightforward.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think, if you look at the whole race, the pace between myself and Lando was pretty close.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think just in that first stint we made the difference, I could eke out a little bit of a gap, and that\u2019s basically what we kept until the end.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t easy also to manage the tyres for most of the stint, but yeah, I kept it in the lead, and just incredibly proud of everyone to deliver a weekend like this.\u201d<\/p>\n

Verstappen was then asked about his thoughts on the drivers\u2019 championship and continued: \u201cYeah, for sure, the chance is there.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe just need to deliver these kinds of weekends until the end! So yeah, we\u2019ll just try whatever we can and I think it\u2019s exciting and I\u2019m just very excited to the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

Damon Hill hails Max Verstappen\u2019s \u2018absolute masterclass\u2019 at the United States Grand Prix<\/p>\n

Verstappen is now only 40 points behind Piastri in the championship with five races and two Sprints to go.<\/p>\n

Considering that after a disappointing Hungarian Grand Prix, Piastri had extended the gap to nearly 100 points, it\u2019s an incredible turnaround in such a short space of time.<\/p>\n

Commentating on the race for BBC Sport<\/a>, 1996 world champion Damon Hill said: \u201cMasterclass, another masterclass. Verstappen is relentless.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey have got this team working. They have not been derailed. They got the car working to Max\u2019s liking.\u201d<\/p>\n

Red Bull suffered a \u2018dip\u2019 in form earlier in the year<\/a>, and there would have been concerns within the team that it could cost the Dutchman the title.<\/p>\n
