{"id":227570,"date":"2025-10-20T19:23:08","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T19:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/227570\/"},"modified":"2025-10-20T19:23:08","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T19:23:08","slug":"mens-soccer-wolves-are-headed-to-the-semi-finals-after-beating-the-sheridan-bruins-algonquin-times","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/227570\/","title":{"rendered":"Men\u2019s soccer Wolves are headed to the semi-finals after beating the Sheridan Bruins \u2013 Algonquin Times"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Algonquin Wolves men\u2019s soccer team defeated the Sheridan Bruins 1-0 at home on Oct. 18 to advance to the league semi-finals. <\/p>\n<p>The finals will be held over the two days sometime between Oct. 23 and Oct. 26, according to the OCAA\u2019s website. It was announced at the end of the quarterfinal game that the Wolves were scheduled to be the hosts, with the games taking place at the Algonquin Sports Field.<\/p>\n<p>The other three teams competing are the Seneca Sting, the Conestoga Condors and the Humber Hawks, who beat the Wolves 2-0 in the OCAA gold medal game last year.<\/p>\n<p>In their game against the Bruins, the lone goal was scored by Wolves captain, Cristian Aviles-Molina, 12 minutes into the second half, on an assist from Alix Basa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/algonquintimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Fav-3-re-scaled.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-121134 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Alessandro Vivolo races towards the ball as the Bruins goalie kicks it away.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Fav-3-re-300x200.jpg\" data-uniq-id=\"7cd3a\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-121134 size-thumbnail lazyload\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/200;\"\/><\/a>Alessandro Vivolo races towards the ball as the Bruins goalie kicks it away. Aviles-Molina missed six games in September due to a medial ankle sprain that happened in first game of the season at Durham. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a relief for me, personally, to have my first goal,\u201d Aviles-Molina said. \u201cAnd also, relief for the team that we finally broke the deadlock.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After the goal, the Wolves\u2019 task was to hold the 1-0 lead. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think we defended well after that goal,\u201d Aviles-Molina said. \u201cMaybe we dropped a little too deep for comfort in my opinion, but I think we did well to keep them off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wolves goaltender Nick Parry, who recorded his third shutout of the season, making six saves, felt the team\u2019s overall performance could have been stronger.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWasn\u2019t the prettiest today, but we got the job done, that\u2019s all we needed to do,\u201d Parry said.<\/p>\n<p>Bruins head coach Alex Liguori said they focused on \u201cfinding a rhythm\u201d in the first half and then upped the pressure in the second.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe just started going at them, playing a little bit more on the front foot and playing more attacking, and today just wasn\u2019t our day,\u201d Liguori said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/algonquintimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Fav-4-re-scaled.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-121136 nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The Wolves charging down the field in the second half.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/Fav-4-re-300x200.jpg\" data-uniq-id=\"e21ca\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-121136 size-thumbnail lazyload\"  data- style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/200;\"\/><\/a>The Wolves charging down the field in the second half of the quarterfinal game.
