One of the best defensive players in the NBA is sticking around in Atlanta.<\/p>\n
Dyson Daniels<\/a> has agreed to a four-year, $100 million contract extension with the Hawks, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported<\/a> Monday. <\/p>\n Daniels was set to become a restricted free agent after this season.<\/p>\n The 22-year-old had a breakout season in his first year with the Hawks, averaging 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.4 assists and a league-leading three steals per game. His 229 total steals were the most since Gary Payton in the 1995-96 season.<\/p>\n His shooting also saw a marked improvement, rising to 49.3 per cent from the field and 34 per cent from deep.<\/p>\n In tandem with his breakout year, Daniels was named the NBA’s most improved player, finished second in defensive player of the year voting and was named to the league’s all-defensive first team. <\/p>\n Originally drafted by the Pelicans eighth overall in 2022, Daniels was traded to Atlanta as part of the deal that sent Dejounte Murray to New Orleans last off-season.<\/p>\n The Hawks finished 40-42 last season \u2014 good for eighth in the Eastern Conference \u2014 but failed to make the playoffs after losing to Orlando and Miami in the Play-In Tournament. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"One of the best defensive players in the NBA is sticking around in Atlanta.
