{"id":227763,"date":"2025-10-20T21:11:10","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T21:11:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/227763\/"},"modified":"2025-10-20T21:11:10","modified_gmt":"2025-10-20T21:11:10","slug":"the-sixth-form-bolton-trains-12-mental-health-first-aiders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/227763\/","title":{"rendered":"The Sixth Form Bolton trains 12 Mental Health First Aiders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The young people are now qualified to provide crucial support to those facing mental health challenges.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Twelve students from The Sixth Form Bolton have become certified Mental Health First Aiders after completing a course led by assistant principal and qualified trainer, Sarah Ball.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The training, part of an ongoing programme at the college, teaches participants how to identify, understand and support someone experiencing a mental health issue.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Harry, a first-year A-level <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/news\/25279890.sixth-form-bolton-student-secures-prestigious-london-agent\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">student<\/a> studying biology, chemistry, and psychology with an EPQ, said: &#8220;I loved doing the Mental Health First Aider course, it was an amazing experience where I learnt valuable skills that I will use in all aspects of life.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;It really widened my perspective of mental health, and now I feel that I have the confidence and ability to help someone when they may be in need.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Also, the course leader was extremely nice and explained everything clearly and made you feel comfortable.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Since the programme began at The Sixth Form Bolton, 83 students and 45 staff members have completed the training.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The course covers recognising warning signs of mental ill health, offering support while maintaining personal safety, and guiding individuals to appropriate professional help.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  It also promotes positive wellbeing and aims to reduce stigma.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mental Health First Aiders are trained to respond effectively in a crisis and potentially prevent one from occurring.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Ball said: &#8220;Once again this is a huge achievement, and all have committed themselves to the challenging content of the MHFA course.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;These MH First <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/news\/24521213.sixth-form-bolton-students-jump-joy-great-a-level-results\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Aiders<\/a> will now go on to reduce stigma around mental health, encourage support, reduce discrimination surrounding mental health and offer a positive outlook of recovery to all.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;A huge congratulations to all of our MHFAiders, they have achieved a fantastic qualification that will help and support both themselves, friends, family, peers and colleagues.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  READ MORE:\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The students now have access to ongoing support through MHFA England, helping them continue their learning and development.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The training is part of the college\u2019s broader commitment to promoting mental health awareness and equipping its community with tools to support one another.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Further MHFA training opportunities will be available to students and staff throughout the academic year.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  MHFA teaches people to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis \u2013 and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Each of the students how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery or successful management of symptoms. This included self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or place of work, online self-referral, support groups, and much more.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They also gained an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around us.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The young people are now qualified to provide crucial support to those facing mental health challenges.
