The game at South Field Monday night between BYU women’s soccer and Colorado ended in a 2-2 tie after a hard-fought match.<\/p>\n
The result means that the Cougars remain in a tough battle in the Big 12 conference for one of the remaining spots in the postseason tournament.<\/p>\n
BYU started strong in the first half, controlling a lot of the ball and putting pressure on the Colorado defense. BYU broke the deadlock with season goal- leader Ellie Walbruch scoring her 10th goal of the season off an assist from midfielder Mika Krommenhoek.<\/p>\n

The Buffaloes got back into the game quickly with a pair of goals in the 23rd minute by the Layba twins, Faith and Hope. This put Colorado up 2-1 and is the first time in school history for the visiting team that twins have scored in the same minute of a game.<\/p>\n
BYU found an equalizer a few minutes later with a curling strike by Mia Gotettsche from outside the box. This goal in the 28th minute leads the game at 2 goals apiece for the remainder of the first half.<\/p>\n
Both teams were aggressive on the attacking front with 11 shots and five shots on goal for the Cougars and Buffaloes in the first period.<\/p>\n
The second half had BYU starting on the front foot maintaining possession and registering a few more shots on the Colorado keeper. The game grew in its physicality as well with both teams going harder into tackles.<\/p>\n
Starting BYU goalkeeper Payton Collins was the recipient of a few tough challenges by the Colorado attackers and after one of these changes she went down with a blow to her quad. She was unable to continue for the rest of the game, with Chelsea Peterson coming in to take her place.<\/p>\n
Peterson was formerly the starting goalkeeper for Utah before serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She decided to come to BYU after the mission. Monday’s game was the first for Peterson in almost four years.<\/p>\n
She played tough in the game eiding the night with two saves in just under 30 minutes of play to keep the Cougars in the game. <\/p>\n
