Stefanos Tsitsipas\u2019 player-coach relationship with Goran Ivanisevic was short-lived, with the two parting ways after two months of working together. <\/p>\n

Tsitsipas hired Ivanisevic<\/a> after his disappointing French Open campaign, where he crashed out in the second round to Matteo Gigante. <\/p>\n

The Greek\u2019s first run with Novak Djokovic<\/a>\u2018s former coach in his corner came at the Halle Open, where he bowed out in the early stages. <\/p>\n

Entering Wimbledon<\/a>, the former world number three was looking to put an end to his poor form at Grand Slams, but found himself two sets down in his first match against Valentin Royer, before retiring mid-contest. <\/p>\n

After it was confirmed that Tsitsipas and Ivanisevic would split<\/a> following the championships, the two had one last conversation with each other.<\/p>\n

In an interview with HRT<\/a>, Ivanisevic<\/a> recalled his last message to Tsitsipas<\/a> before they went their separate ways.<\/p>\n

The Croatian said: \u201cWe spoke yesterday, no hard feelings, we thanked each other. He decided to try again with his father, and honestly, I truly believe this \u2013 the only person who can coach him is his dad.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe played his best tennis with him, his dad knows him best, this is a family project. It\u2019s the best decision, I wish him all the best, he\u2019s too good of a player to be where he is.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd yesterday I told him again that nothing will change unless he sorts some things out in his head.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Tsitsipas\u2019 first-round exit at Wimbledon, Ivanisevic spoke with Sport Klub<\/a> and blasted the star, saying he had \u2018never seen such an underprepared player\u2019. <\/p>\n

He now says of the interview: \u201cIt was blown out of proportion, I didn\u2019t insult him. I told him all of that, it\u2019s not like I was saying it behind his back.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow it seems like you can\u2019t say anything anymore. I said it honestly, to get a reaction. That\u2019s how this generation is. Unfortunately, that\u2019s how it is; everyone sees it. He feels it too, and he knows.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re not mentally, physically, and emotionally ready. Especially mentally, to play for hours with the best, then you have no chance of playing tennis.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe wasn\u2019t mentally ready to play at Wimbledon. I hope he\u2019ll find his path. I wish him all the best. We know the results he\u2019s had; he hasn\u2019t forgotten how to play tennis.\u201d<\/p>\n
