Wall Street week ahead: Busy markets week with tariffs, Fed, tech results<\/a><\/p>\nOverseas, the pan-European STOXX 600 was down 0.5 per cent in morning trading. Britain\u2019s FTSE 100 declined 0.38 per cent, Germany\u2019s DAX fell 0.79 per cent and France\u2019s CAC 40 edged up 0.13 per cent.<\/p>\n
In Asia, Japan\u2019s Nikkei closed 0.88 per cent lower, while Hong Kong\u2019s Hang Seng fell 1.09 per cent. <\/p>\n
Commodities<\/p>\n
Oil prices were stable as trade talk optimism supported the outlook for both the global economy and oil demand, balancing news of the potential for more oil supply from Venezuela.<\/p>\n
Brent crude futures were up 0.55 per cent at US$69.56 a barrel. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures gained 0.55 per cent to US$66.39.<\/p>\n
\u201cTrade talk optimism appears to be offsetting expectations for stronger Venezuelan supply,\u201d ING analysts wrote in a client note.<\/p>\n
In other commodities, spot gold was down 0.7 per cent to $3,343 an ounce. U.S. gold futures fell 0.9 per cent to $3,344.50.<\/p>\n
Currencies and bonds<\/p>\n
The Canadian dollar weakened against its U.S. counterpart.<\/p>\n
The day range on the loonie was 73.09 US cents to 73.34 US cents in early trading. The Canadian dollar was up about 0.05 per cent against the greenback over the past month.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The U.S. dollar index, which weighs the greenback against a group of currencies, climbed 0.38 per cent to 97.75.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The euro slid 0.2 per cent to US$1.1723. The British pound dropped 0.41 per cent to US$1.3452. <\/p>\n
In bonds, the yield on the U.S. 10-year note was last up at 4.413 per cent.<\/p>\n

8:30 am ET: U.S. durable goods orders for June. Consensus is for a decline of 10.8 per cent, but core orders are seen up 0.2 per cent.<\/p>\n
