{"id":231423,"date":"2025-10-22T08:20:17","date_gmt":"2025-10-22T08:20:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/231423\/"},"modified":"2025-10-22T08:20:17","modified_gmt":"2025-10-22T08:20:17","slug":"senators-fall-to-oilers-in-overtime-after-comeback","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/231423\/","title":{"rendered":"Senators fall to Oilers in overtime after comeback"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>OTTAWA \u2014 Neither the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/teams\/ottawa-senators\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"ottawa-senators\" data-league=\"nhl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Ottawa Senators<\/a> nor the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsnet.ca\/hockey\/nhl\/teams\/edmonton-oilers\/\" class=\"sn-team-post-link\" target=\"_self\" data-team=\"edmonton-oilers\" data-league=\"nhl\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Edmonton Oilers<\/a> have had the start to the NHL season they envisioned, but both teams are showing signs that a turnaround may be underway.<\/p>\n<p>After a couple weeks of inconsistency there\u2019s a growing sense in each locker room that the pieces are beginning to fall into place.<\/p>\n<p>The Oilers (3-3-1) are returning home from a five-game road trip with a 2-3-0 record but were able to cap it with a 3-2 overtime win over the Ottawa Senators, after giving up a two-goal lead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe don\u2019t get too rattled about how things are going when things are tough,\u201d said Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch. \u201cWe could have really unravelled, really fell apart, but we stuck with it and the composure was good.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Knoblauch liked his team\u2019s response but says it can\u2019t afford to not have a full 60-minute effort.<\/p>\n<p>The Oilers had just two home games before heading out on the road and while the travel helps with team chemistry it makes for a rough start to the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first stretch here I think is a pretty tough schedule and I think for us to be able to finish this road trip off with a win just really helps out,\u201d said goaltender Stuart Skinner. \u201cIt could have been an ugly road trip, but we were able to manage two wins which is huge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Skinner says despite the losses the team feels good about its game.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were in every single game that we\u2019ve played, in all of our losses,\u201d said Skinner. &#8220;I think that\u2019s a really good stepping-stone just on the way that we\u2019ve able to compete and keep ourselves in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Senators have not played to Travis Green\u2019s liking of late, but the head coach believes his players have responded well to the feedback they\u2019ve received.<\/p>\n<p>Ottawa (2-4-1) is looking to return to the post-season again and while they\u2019re only seven games in the understanding is that good habits need to be established sooner than later.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel like we have a very coachable group,\u201d said Green. \u201cA group that we can be honest with \u2026 we\u2019ve had a lot of open dialogue that probably wasn\u2019t complimentary to our team, but I think when you have a team you can be honest with, they can accept responsibility of how they play and hopefully they can respond.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Senators have been talking about their identity of late and how they\u2019ve gotten away from what made them successful last season.
