\n NBA<\/a> Commissioner Adam Silver has said that WNBA<\/a> players will get \u201ca big increase\u201d in pay from the league\u2019s new collective bargaining agreement (CBA).\n <\/p>\n

\n Speaking<\/a> on NBC\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d show on Tuesday before the start of the new NBA season, Silver was asked whether players in the WNBA should be receiving a larger share of the league\u2019s revenue.\n <\/p>\n

\n He initially responded \u201cYes,\u201d then clarified: \u201cI think \u2018share\u2019 isn\u2019t the right way to look at it because there\u2019s so much more revenue in the NBA. I think you should look at it in absolute numbers in terms of what they\u2019re making.\n <\/p>\n

\n \u201cAnd they are going to get a big increase in this cycle of collective bargaining, and they deserve it.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has previously said that a new deal will get done between the league and its players, though not necessarily by the October 31 deadline.\n <\/p>\n

\n Under the current CBA<\/a>, players currently get 9.3% of the WNBA\u2019s total revenue, while NBA players receive 49%.\n <\/p>\n

\n The WNBA has enjoyed huge growth<\/a> in recent seasons, with the 13 franchises increasing in value by an average of 180%, according to research by Sportico released earlier this year.\n <\/p>\n

\n Sportico said that TV ratings, merchandise sales, attendance and revenue increases over the last 12 months have led to the league exploding in value, with Caitlin Clark<\/a>\u2019s Indiana Fever growing by 273% to a $335 million valuation.\n <\/p>\n

\n In the past season<\/a>, the WNBA\u2019s salary cap was set at $1,507,100, with a maximum of $249,244 and minimum of $66,079.\n <\/p>\n

\n Silver\u2019s comments appeared to anger the WNBPA, the league\u2019s players\u2019 association, which shared the video of Silver in a post on Instagram Stories<\/a> and commented: \u201cDon\u2019t you want to share, @adamsilvernba?\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n WNBA players have long been protesting against the league\u2019s pay, with those competing in this year\u2019s All-Star game warming up in T-shirts<\/a> with the words \u201cPay Us What You Owe Us.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n The tension between the players and the league\u2019s leadership reached new heights last month when Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier said<\/a> that the WNBA has \u201cthe worst leadership in the world\u201d and displayed a \u201clack of accountability.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

\n Engelbert responded<\/a> by saying that she has \u201cutmost respect\u201d for Collier and has been \u201cwork(ing) tirelessly to transform this league.\u201d\n <\/p>\n
