Adam Driver really wanted to play his Star Wars character Kylo Ren again\u2014and even got Lucasfilm on board for a sequel to 2019\u2019s The Rise of Skywalker to make it happen.<\/p>\n

But it didn\u2019t pan out, as Driver told the Associated Press<\/a> Tuesday, even though he had even found a director for the film in Oscar-winning Black Bag auteur Steven Soderbergh. <\/p>\n

The Hunt for Ben Solo, as it was tentatively called, was \u201cone of the coolest f—ing scripts I had ever been a part of,\u201d Driver told the outlet. \u201cIt is no more, so I can finally talk about it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Driver played Kylo Ren\/Ben Solo in all three of the Star Wars sequel trilogy films. \u201cI loved that character and loved playing him,\u201d Driver explained. \u201cI always was interested in doing another Star Wars. I had been talking about doing another one since 2021.\u201d <\/p>\n

Driver said that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy \u201creached out,\u201d and he \u201calways said: With a great director and a great story, I\u2019d be there in a second.\u201d When The Hunt for Ben Solo story came along, Driver said it seemed like a slam dunk. <\/p>\n

Soderbergh created the story with Rebecca Blunt, which just happens to be the pseudonym Soderbergh\u2019s wife, former E! personality Jules Asner, used when she wrote the script for Lucky Logan. The two tapped Contagion writer Scott Z. Burns to pen the script, which Driver called \u201creally cool.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lucasfilm \u201cloved the idea,\u201d Driver said, and \u201ctotally understood our angle and why we were doing it.\u201d Disney, however, couldn\u2019t get on board. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe took it to [Disney CEO] Bob Iger\u201d and co-chair Alan Bergman, Driver recalled. \u201cThey said no.\u201d <\/p>\n

As Driver\u2019s character dies at the end of The Rise of Skywalker, the sequel stumped the company\u2019s top brass. \u201cThey didn\u2019t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that,\u201d the two-time Oscar nominee explained. <\/p>\n

Driver shared that he and Soderbergh seemed to have all the ingredients for a great addition to the Star Wars universe. \u201cWe wanted to be judicial about how to spend money and be economical with it, and do it for less than most but in the same spirit of what those movies are,\u201d he said, \u201cwhich is handmade and character-driven.\u201d<\/p>\n
